the Commodores Cup SailRace, a 42 year PCYC tradi-

    tion.

At the end of the month, we

have all of the festivities sur-

rounding the 2013 Green Is-land Race, which should be

huge this year with the TallShips Festival in Port Clinton

    To welcome the Tall Ships,

Skip Sorgen and I are hostinga Wine and Cigar Smoker on

    the deck on Thursday, Augus

29, the evening when the Tal

Ships are due to arrive. Wewill welcome them with a

cannon salute. That will befollowed by the arrival of theGreen Island Race competi-

    tors from the feeder races

from North Cape and San-dusky. There will be enter-

    tainment from my favorite

    band, the Travelin Lounge

Lizards on Saturday night, and then the Race on Sunday

We expect a big turnout this

year thanks to the Tall Shipsbeing in port across the Port-

    age River.

Dont forget, Friday NightSnacks every Friday in Au-

    gust. Enjoy your club. Rest

assured that your Board ofTrustees is working hard to

make it a great place for all.

Dear Lordplease turn off thespigot!!! I think we have had

    enough rain for the summer.

Port Clinton had over 7 inches

of rain in June and by mid

July, we have already experi-enced another 5 inches or so!

Enough already!!!I am very sorry to report the

    passing of Past Commodore

Dave Audiano, who wasPCYC Commodore in 1987.

He had the extreme bad for-

    tune of following my brother

Chuck through the chairs (justkidding). Those were good

days for Port Clinton YachtClub, aside from the occa-sional high water problems.

Also, please say a prayer for

Past Commodore BernieGates, who was hospitalized at

    this writing. My father was

    Rear Commodore the year

Bernie was Commodore in1969. Bernie also recently lost

    his daughter Sharon unexpect-

edly. Those of us who are stillenjoying this gift called life

have much to be thankful for.

A JWD (Job Well Done)goes out to Fleet Captain of

    Sail, Ramon Eickert and his

hordes of volunteers whohelped out for the North Coast

Junior Regatta on July 19. We

had over 100 boats in the com-

    petition and over 150 young

men and ladies who partici-pated in the one-day event.

Yes, the traffic causes a bit of

    problem, but the competitors,

    and their parents along with

their coaches had pretty muchcleared out by the time the

    Friday Night Snacks crowdshowed up.

Be sure to mark the weekend

of August 3 and 4 down onyour calendars for some great

    PCYC fun and frivolity. First

the Beach Party will be held

out on the North Shore beachon Saturday night. Then, the

North Coast Concert Band, including a number of PCYCmembers, will entertain on

    Sunday evening for a

Concert on the Deck begin-ning at 4 p.m. Food and re-

    freshments will also be avail-

able. Bring a lawn chair and

enjoy an evening of music forall ages.

    The first weekend of August

is just the beginning of a hugemonth of activities at PCYC.

If you havent as yet checked

out the Saturday morningBloody Mary Socials on the

Deck, you are missing a lot of

fun and fellowship with mem-bers, their guests and visiting

    yachtsmen. Then there is the

    Old Fashioned Beef roast on

August 24, the same day as

    Commodores Report, John Schaffner

The Rear PerspectiveHard to believe summer

    is over half gone! The

    Club grounds are very

    busy this time of year

    with many kids out and

    about. Take extra caution

    while driving through the

    Club and watch out for

    the kids.

    A reminder to boaters; If

    you do not currently have

a dock but want to visit

    the Club by boat, call

    ahead first or see Eric

    upon arriving and if you

    are leaving for more than

two days, please informEric so he knows your

    dock space is available.

    We continue to have is-

    sues with the condition of

    the kids room the morn-

ing after a busy night of

    club activity. As you may

    have read, it has been

    decided to restrict pop-

    corn from the room.

    Also, on those busy

nights, the bar TV moni-tor will be broadcasting a

live feed of the room. It

    is unfortunate it has come

    to this, but the destruc-

    tion of club property and

    unsafe behavior has

    driven the decision to

    take these measures. If

    inappropriate behavior is

    witnessed and verified, a

letter will be sent to the

    appropriate member.

On a tour of the marina

    last week, I observed

    some untidy areas in

    front of boats that need

    some attention. Please

    take some time to keep

    your area free from clut-

ter. If you have any ques-

    tions on what is permit-

    ted, please contact me todiscuss.

    Project updates

    1. Water Meter/

    Backflow Preventer

    Kelley, Doug Shealy

    and Charlie Johnson

    have successfully

    reconnected our wa-

ter supply to the newwater Main. The next

step is to place a new

    catch basin and

    smooth out the soil to

    plant grass.

    2. Boat Ramp com-

    plete

    3. Water Irrigation

    continues. Once

    complete we will be

    over-seeding many

    areas this fall.

proved the paintingof the exterior of the

    following buildings;

    Main Clubhouse,

    BBQ pit and the Pool

    House. This work

    will start late this

    month or early Sep-

    tember. Every effort

    will be made to mini-

    mize any inconven-

    ience to daily activity

around the club.Thats it for now. Enjoy

The power fleet had a very busy

July. The dingy poker run was a

great success and a lot of

fun. There were over seventy peo-

    ple that participated in the

event. This past weekend we had a

    cruise-out to Middle Bass. There

were 23 boats that went for the

weekend. We had a fun cook-

out on Fridayalong with a break-

    fast on Saturdaymorning. There

    was also a dockside sing

    along Saturdayafternoon,

    which was a blast.

    There is one cruise-out sched-

uled for August. We will be

    traveling to Grosse Point Yacht

    Club the weekend ofAugust

    9th. There are many boats

signed up and also some on the

waiting list. Please let me know

if you are not going to be able

to attend, so that we can allow

    another boat to partici-

pate. This should be a great

    weekend going up the Detroit

    River.

There are many people to thank

and everyone is vital to putting

on this large regatta so I will not

name them all in case I would

    forget someone. Thanks to

    those that volunteered for Scor-

    ing, Committee Boats, Mark

    boats, Registration, Food, T-

    shirt sales, Parking, Hoist,

Cleanup. Thanks to all theNorth Shore folks and those next

to and across from the hoists for

    helping with parking and reloca-

tion of cars and boats. As you

can see a lot of people in our

club are involved and that is

why our regattas are such a huge

    success!

    I heard comments from other

ILYA clubs how great our venue

is. The grounds are great and the

    members very friendly.

I am very proud that we put on one

of the best Jr. Regattas in Lake

    Erie.

Special thanks to CommodoreJohn Schaffner and RC Don Rod-

wancy for presenting the awards to

the Jr. Sailors. It makes a great

    impression on the kids.

Also thank you for Manager PC

    Chuck Reichman for helping to

scrub the slime off the launch

ramp. We had the majority of

boats being launched of the beach

and he made it less slick.

    Caretaker Eric Reynolds and mem-

ber Sean Kelly for taking time andusing his equipment in hoisting

Thistles and Coach boats in the

    lagoon.

The PCYC race team is off to Jr.

Bay Week. Results and pictures to

follow in the next Jib Sheet.

    PCYC/VBC North Coast Jr.

Regatta. (Friday Jul 19th) It was

    a beautiful and windy day.

    Winds were blowing from the

SW @ 12-20 knots. The sight

from the club or if you were

driving down Perry St. wasamazing. We had 4 courses set

up with 120 boats racing and

    155 participants form 15 differ-

ent Yacht Clubs. We had 10

    boats and 14 racers representing

    PCYC.

    Our PCYC sailors did great!
