Parent-Teacher Interviews Parent-Teacher interviews will be held throughout this week (27th – 31st July). I would like to thank Liz, Jess and Kara for the time they have spent preparing for these important conversations. The interviews will provide families and teachers the opportunity to share more child-specific information or answer any questions that might have arisen from Semester 1 reports. We look forward to sharing your child’s achievements with you. Scientist in Residence This Friday 31st July, we will welcome Dr Peter Eastwell back to the school for a full day of science activities for our students. Some of our older students will remember Peter’s visit from last year, especially when he blew up a soft drink bottle with liquid nitrogen – it was spectacular! This year, Peter will conduct an electricity show for the whole school and then provide some hands on forensic activities for our older students. The younger students will get to enjoy some science investigation work before Peter finishes the day for everyone with another bang! This year, we have also booked Peter for a community Science Show. Remembering that social distancing requirements will need to strictly be observed, we are hoping to see as many of you as possible there.

Anglicare Student Wellbeing Opportunity Julie Bartulis from Anglicare Southern Queensland will be running Circle Time Groups in Term 3 for selected students. The Circle Time groups will run for 4 weeks commencing 3rd August during class time on a Monday afternoon. Circle time is a structured framework for group interaction that is intended to support communication skills, personal and social development, resilience and a supportive class atmosphere. It meets a number of curriculum targets. Circle Time uses small group activities and many of these activities are presented as games. It does have a serious intent though, in providing a space for reflection and discussion on important issues. It enhances the skills needed in healthy relationships, addresses bullying and increases confidence in communication. It also helps students to learn what is involved in creative problem-solving. Positive feelings promote self-esteem, reduce stress and also increase engagement with learning. We are excited to engage with this opportunity and we look forward to our students participating in the program.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

(PBL)

BE RESPECTFUL BE A LEARNER BE SAFE

Behaviour of the week: I keep my hands feet and

objects to myself. This week in our Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons, the students are learning about the importance of keeping their hands, feet and objects to themselves. This positive behaviour expectation has a Be Safe focus and it is relevant to all areas of the school. During the week, the students will be discussing the importance of keeping their hands, feet and objects to themselves. The students will identify why this is an important expectation at our school and will discuss strategies they can use if others do not follow this behaviour.

Year 4 - 5 - 6 Class - Liz Lindsay Happy Week 3! The Legends are once again working very hard.

This week we are learning to pose open-ended questions.

Open-ended questions are an excellent way to promote

discussion and to challenge other’s thoughts and ideas. This is

an important skill for students to master, as they are required

to pose thought provoking questions during panel discussions

for their English assessment. In Maths, we are consolidating

our learning around fractions and completing assessment. We

are also commencing our learning around measurement. This

week Parent-Teacher interviews began. It has been wonderful

to have conversations around students learning and progress. I

look forward to continuing these conversations over the next

Year 2 - 3 Class - Jess Jones Happy week 3 everyone! This week we are continuing to read

“Georges Marvellous Medicine” in English and looking at noun

groups in our procedures. In Maths, Year 2 are continuing to

learn about fractions and in Year 3, they are revising money

and completing their first assessment. Another fun and busy

week ahead. Have a great week everyone!

Kindy - Prep - Year 1 Class - Kara Dawson And here is week 3! It was so great to see so many homework

folders in the box last Friday! Let’s see if we can have every

folder in the box this week. The Preps and Year 1s are working

hard on writing character descriptions from some of our

favourite books. We are going to have our word wall up and

running by the end of the week to help with spelling some of

those more difficult words. Telling time on the hour is a piece

of cake for our Year 1s, but showing half past time is proving to

be slightly more difficult – especially remembering the size of

the minute and hour hands! Next week there will be a little bit

of homework around time to help reinforce their

understanding. Our Kindies will be starting their cooking this

week, our first dish is… Celery Bugs (they are a lot more yummy

than they sound). We will make sure to take lots of photos and

pop them up on Storypark for everyone to see. Have a good
