Pic: Denis O’Flynn Cork Hurlers’ Championship Run Concludes The Cork Senior Hurlers were defeated by Galway in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final in Croke Park on Sunday on a scoreline of 0-22 to 0-17, bringing their 2012 campaign to a close. Having lost out to Tipperary in the Munster Championship, Jimmy Barry- Murphy’s men went on to defeat Offaly, Wexford and Waterford before finally bowing out at the hands of the Tribesmen. Well done to all involved, and we look forward with optimism to 2013.

Cork Hurlers’ Championship Run Concludes The Cork Senior Hurlers were defeated by Galway in the All-Ireland

Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final in Croke Park on Sunday on a

scoreline of 0-22 to 0-17, bringing their 2012 campaign to a close.

Having lost out to Tipperary in the Munster Championship, Jimmy Barry-

Award for Cathal Vaughan Congratulations to Cathal Vaughan, Uibh Laoire, winner of the 96FM

C103 Sports Award for July, in association with Rochestown Park Hotel.

Cathal, who also played Minor Football for Cork in 2011 and 2012, was

honoured for his contribution of 1-7 in his club's recent victory over

Kildorrery in the County U21 B Football Final. Guests at the presentation

included Cork Minor Football manager Ephie Fitzgerald, the Uibh Laoire

U21 selectors, Cathal’s family and other club members.

Cork/New York Accolade for Conor Counihan Congratulations to Cork Senior Football manager Conor Counihan, who

was honoured by the County Cork Association of New York at their recent

Ball at Rochestown Park Hotel, along with Cobh native, Treasa Goodwin-

Smyth. Also in attendance on the night were Lord Mayor, John Buttimer,

County Mayor, Barbara Murray, MEP Seán Kelly, officers of Cork County

Board and many visitors from New York.

County Board

Report At the County Board

meeting of August 14th,

tributes were paid to the

late Johnny O’Mahony

(Kanturk) RIP, former

Cork footballer and GAA

stalwart. The

Cathaoirleach wished the

Cork footballers well in

their upcoming semi-

final, and thanked all

involved with the Cork

hurling team for their

endeavours. Fixtures

were ratified, and the

meeting heard a report

from the recent Munster

Council meeting. The

next meeting is on

September 4th.

GAA Cúrsa Gaeilge in Coláiste na Rinne Coiste Cultúrtha na Mumhan is organising an Irish language course in

Coláiste na Rinne, An Rinn, Co Waterford on Wednesday, 22 August.

Liam Ó Néill, Uachtarán of the GAA will perform the official opening of the

course on the day. This is a new course that intends to give people a

chance to practice their cúpla focal while focusing on different elements

of the GAA. The aim of the course is to promote our language and culture

among members of the Association. The day will include talks, classes,

singing and discussions of topical matters in the GAA world. There will be

numerous guest speakers on the day, all having strong GAA connections,

including Seán Breathnach, Cathaoirleach, Comhairle na Mumhan, former

Kerry All Ireland winning captain Dara Ó Cinnéide, Mac Dara Mac

Donnacha (TG4 agus RnaG), Seán Ó Ceallaigh MEP and former President,

Irial Mac Murchú (Nemeton TV) and local singers Aodán Ó Ceallaigh

(trainer with na Gaeil Óga, hurler) and Ann Mulqueen (renowned singer
