Coiste Oiliúna agus Forbatha na gCluichí Phort Láirge NEWSLETTER (MAY 2015) Fáilte Welcome to the 4 th edition of the Waterford Coaching & Games Development Newsletter. As the year goes on quickly it is great to see so many games and activities taking place around the county on a daily and nightly basis. The playing season is coming into full tilt at moment and there is huge activity going on in clubs and schools across the county. All in Coaching & Games Development would like to congratulate the Waterford Senior Hurlers and Camogie teams on winning the National League and the Ladies Footballers on reaching the Ladies Football National League Final. Hopefully the 3 teams plus the Mens Footballers will have Championship success in the summer. There will be several players from the various county panels working with us this summer on the Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps and who knows a trophy or 2 might make an appearance at some camps. A full update on the camps is inside this edition. Also included in this edition is a pictorial of the Post Primary Super Touch Blitzes run by the GDA’s and Jobbridge personnel in recent weeks along with updates from the GDA Divsions and a calendar of upcoming events. We hope you will enjoy the Newsletter and feel free to pass it on to anyone you know who may be interested. Thanks to Gavin Whelan & GDA’s for putting together the newsletter.

Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps 2015 • During the camps we will be picking 1 boy and 1 girl from the oldest age group in each camp.

These children will come to Carriganore on Tuesday 25th August where we will have games against children from the camps in Wexford who are running the same programme.

• For clubs who are running a camp for 4-5 year olds during the Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camp we will be in a position to sell kits to those if required. The cost of the kit will be €30 which will include the bag in Waterford colours, Cúl Camp training jersey and Cúl Camp 1/2 zip top.

• If a club wishes to run it's own club summer camp during the summer this can only be done once the club runs a Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camp and must take place at least 2 weeks after the Cúl Camp. Clubs must apply for permission from County Board and Coaching & Games Development to do this.

• We will be putting up 1 sign on each club gate by the end of May. This sign will have the date of each club along with a picture of the kit.

• In the month of June we will be running some free places competitions on social media, local radio and local newspapers.

Under 12 Hurling

During the Easter mid - term break we ran a three day intensive hurling training camp for boys born in 2003 in Walsh Park. This was very well attended with 32 players from 8 different clubs attending. A special word of thanks to John Doxer Burns and Nicholas Barr

for their excellent coaching.

Under 13 Hurling:

Intensive hurling training for boys born in 2002 continues to take place on Friday nights from 6.30pm to 8.00pm every two weeks in Carriganore. All players born in 2002 are welcome to attend. Next session takes place on Friday 15th May. Contact John Quinn 0877656158 for details.

Primary School blitzs

From Monday the 20th to Friday 24th May we ran a series of hurling blitzs for Urban primary schools 3rd & 4th Classes. These were very successful with different schools coming to the Mount Sion GAA grounds over the 5 days. Thanks to all the schools who participated. A special word of thanks also to the boys and girls from the various schools that refereed the games. They were really excellent and contributed enormously to the occasion. Thanks very much also to the Mount Sion Club for the use of their fabulous facilities.

Congratulations to the following urban schools that have qualified for the Primary Schools skills final:

Hurling/Camogie St Declan’s NS, Gael Scoil na nDeise, St Stephen’s NS, Gaelic Football St Declan’s NS, Gael Scoil na nDeise, Mount Sion NS. Hurling Workshop On Saturday 18th April, Michael Rice, Kilkenny Senior hurler & St Kierans Coach delivered a very worthwhile hurling workshop in Walsh Park. Unfortunately this was not as well attended as we would have hoped, with a number of clubs not sending anyone into it. Nonetheless, those that did attend found it to be of great benefit and our under 15 development squad players and mentors who participated in the session found it very beneficial, A special word of thanks to Michael Rice for delivering the session.
