WEBSITE SCAVENGER HUNT PART 2 One of the best resources you will have in this class is my class website. In this assignment you will be asked to learn how to navigate your way through to finding: contact information, daily/weekly communications, assignments, due dates, calendars, and other helpful information. It is very crucial with remote learning for you to learn how to learn, what I mean by with that is by giving you this tool you can learn how to direct your learning that is best suited to your needs. By learning what the website has to offer it can help you to navigate the wide range of available choices here so that you are better equipped in the future.

This assignment is designed in parts to help break it down, so it does not overwhelm you. Some of the content will be easy for many of you and you can speed right through it. Other’s may be seeing some of this for the first time so complete it at your pace.

I will be asking you a series of questions in which you will need to go to the website and find the answers. Once you have, you will need to tell me how you found it and give me a screen shot showing me you found it.

Welcome to Part II: Navigating the first two tabsWelcome to the website! In this section we will learn how to find and navigate our way through content. I will post the link each week in Skooler as part of our planning and in case you forget how to get there. So, if you haven’t already let’s get you there: https://adamsscience9.weebly.com/

When you first arrive to the website you will be directed to the main page Adams Science News. This is the daily blog, I try to blog every day so that you will know what the we are going to do, how we are going to do it, and why we are doing it. I will not post the link to our Zoom meetings here, the reason for this is because this is a public website and I do not wish for random people joining us in class. Your Zoom link will be in the Skooler Messages, Skooler Plan, and in my emails to you. The Zoom link is consistent and will be the same for class and office hours.

On the Adams Daily News page, you will find information dating all the way back to 2017 in the “Archives”. So, if you are ever curious what we did you can always go back and see. You simply click on a month and year and it will take you to the last day of that month. It may also be helpful if you missed class and need to go back to see what we did on that day.

At the bottom of every page in the blog you will see “Previous” if you click on it the page will go back in time. If you go too far then another link at the bottom will appear to go to the next page.

The blog page is an overview of what will occur in class. So, it will be helpful if you ever need to review or if you miss class to see what occurred on a specific date.

The second tab is called “Contact/Caregiver Support/PBL”. This tab has a drop-down page attached. But first let’s look at the contact information. Click on the “Contact/Caregiver Support/PBL” tab and you will see this page appear.

If you scroll down (see the pointer in the lower right corner) it will show you the information you are looking for.

Now you can see; my classroom phone number, my email address, room number, office hours, and information about how and when I can reply to emails. Below that are some helpful links for parents/caregivers to help support you in remote learning. Each link will direct them to a different website.

Remember this tab had a drop-down page attached. This tab was called “What is PBL?”

PBL stands for Phenomenon Based Learning.

This approach gives students a chance to connect the concepts that we teach to a real-world phenomenon, instead of just concepts from chapters. Some examples could be: What does it mean when people say you are made of stars? How has the need for energy involved over time? Where did DB Cooper land? Can volcanic eruptions change the chemistry of our climate? How do solar panels work?

Using the style helps support students in their understanding and is in line with how the NGSS standards are created as well as out district’s outcomes and indicators.
