On Holy Thursday, April 2, the parish will host a soup supper from 5:30 -6:45 p.m. in the Lower Level of the Church before Holy Thursday Mass. Soup and Bread will be provided.

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord + Reflection

Jesus freely chose to suffer and die so that our sins could be forgiven and we could be reconciled to the Father. The motivation our Lord had for doing this was his great love for us and his desire to be faithful to the will of his Father.

By entering more deeply into our Lord’s passion, we can come to experience more fully his great love for us.

Holy Thursday Soup Supper ~ The Pastoral Council and Parish Staff will host the Holy Thursday Soup Supper on April 2 @ 5:30—6:45 PM in the Oak Room of the Lower Level. Three delicious soups and bread will be provided. Attendees should bring salads and desserts to share. Yes, I said desserts! Holy Thursday is an evening to celebrate!

Easter Vigil Service ~ Several parishioners have inquired whether or not the Easter Vigil will be open to parishioners since there is such a large group of Catechumens and Candidates. YES! All are welcome to celebrate the Easter Vigil Service next Saturday. The Chapel will be open for the overflow.

Saint Boniface Parish School Registration ~ Saint Boniface is accepting students for the 2015-16 school year now. Please contact Sister Anna @ the Parish School for information regarding our quality Pre-K—8 Catholic education.

Parking at Saint Boniface ~ As you are well aware, parking at Saint Boniface is premium, especially on weekends. I would like to remind you that parking is available at the corner of Vandalia and Burton (Deutsch Place), which is a short walk to the choir entrance door on the corner of Vandalia and Fillmore. Parking at Park Place on weekends is not permitted. Park Place is not a public parking area. It is reserved for their business patrons.

Edwardsville Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held today, Sunday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the KC Hall. Ages newborn to 10 years old welcome. St. Boniface School students will participate in Jump Rope for Heart on Tuesday, April 14.

The ECSB is an excellent grade school band. Many band students performed at Contest on Saturday, March 14. They received two First Superior solos (Maria Fitzgerald and Ally Phillips), one First Superior ensemble (Katie Deakos, Luke Deakos and Zoe Faulkner), 13 First Solos, and 6 First Ensembles. Lab band received a First Superior rating. Great job!

Our St. Boniface School Chorus also performed at Contest. They were equally outstanding! They received three First Superiors with PERFECT SCORES for solos (Emily Amick, Katie Deakos and Tessa Mudd); two First Superiors for duets (Claire Stanhaus & Maggie Terry; Emily Amick & Anna McKee); two First Superiors for ensembles (Emily Amick, Reese Etcheson, Lily Heddinghaus and Anna McKee; Riley Bukovac, Jane Fitzgerald, Ella Heddighaus and Brianna Paul); and two First Superiors with PERFECT SCORES for independent instrumental solos (Maria Fitzgerald—piano & Lindsey Bonk—violin). We also received six First Place solos, five First Place duets, and two First Place ensembles; one Second Place solo and one Second Place ensemble.

Our students also represented our art program very well at the Best of Maryville Art Contest and Show. Out of nearly 300 entries, ten of our students were awarded prizes:

MINISTRY MINUTES

Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein

It is Palm Sunday. At the liturgy today we begin with the triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Our Gospel reading is the Passion of the Lord from Mark and, as with all of our Masses, we culminate with the Holy Eucharist (Christ Presence). As Holy Week begins, depth of emotions abound. This invitation to experience our deepest human emotions with the Lord continues during the week with Chrism Mass, Mass of the Lord’s Supper with Washing of Feet (followed by Adoration in the Chapel), Good Friday Passion of the Lord services, the Easter Vigil with the Easter Fire and new members being brought into Christ’s Community, and Easter Sunday with the Renewal of Baptismal Promises.

The longer version of the Gospel reading from today begins before Judas Iscariot betrays Jesus and the disciples were in Bethany. A woman came with a jar of perfumed oil and poured it on Jesus’ head. Some in the room complained that she was wasting something valuable. But Jesus tells them “She has anticipated anointing my body for burial.” Like Holy Week, this is an act of sorrow and celebration. She doesn’t care what the others think or how much the alabaster jar or the oils cost; she only is concerned about Jesus. This week as we focus our thoughts on Jesus we may experience tears; tears of sadness because of the torture and betrayal that Jesus experienced, tears of gratefulness and hope because of Jesus’ love and forgiveness, and tears of joy because Jesus rose and remains with us in the Eucharist. This week as we live out our Catholic Symbols of water, oil, bread and wine I pray that we can embrace the deepest human emotions with Jesus and experience sadness, forgiveness, healing, hope and joy.

Grief Support Group

Grief is something we all experience. Sometimes grief is sudden and expected, other times it is lingering or reappears at holidays or significant anniversaries. Grief support at St. Boniface is open to anyone and has no fees. Celebrating How Precious Life Is

There have been so many events happening within my family that remind me of how precious life is. My oldest daughter is going to have her first child in June. The baby will be our first female granddaughter. The announcement of Rachel’s pregnancy has brought our family continuing joy and anticipation of that new life among us.

My mother-in-law, like so many others this winter season, is recovering from a very long bout of upper respiratory infection and is returning to the busy schedule she likes to keep. A sister-in-law is recovering ahead of schedule from a very serious illness she contracted during a visit to Florida and is about to leave rehab and return to her home. We are thankful for these lives recovered.

Last Sunday afternoon our youngest daughter arrived from Ohio, accompanied by two of our grandsons, and our normally quiet home is a surge of energy. We can’t help but be pulled into the noise and the joy of the whirlwind of life these two boys seem to create.

The very riot of life we find ourselves in – life anticipated, life recovered, and life joyful and fully lived, helps me to realize just how much we need to thank our God for the gift of a life with hope and meaning given to us by the willingness of Jesus to cooperate with and obey God the Father in his plan of salvation for us.

Walk with our Lord during this Holy Week as we renew the events of the Paschal Mystery. Walk with our Lord through his suffering, death and resurrection which earned for us forgiveness of sin and access to eternal life. Our Lord’s sacrifice is why each of our own lives are precious and meaningful and worth celebrating. ~ Deacon Dan

St. Boniface Youth to Attend World Youth Day 2016 For the past 6 months, a group of 6 high school students have been working to raise money to attend World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow, Poland. The group will travel with

Bishop Paprocki and others from the diocese July 22 - August 1, 2016. While on pilgrimage, we will visit the Black Madonna Shrine in Czestochowa, the Auschwitz concentration camp to see the cell of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and Birkenau to see the place of martyrdom of St. Edith Stein. We will also visit the home town of St. John Paul II and many other shrines before joining with 3.5 million young people from all over the world. If you can help us financially in any way, we truly appreciate your generosity. Most of all, we ask you to please join us in praying that St. John Paul II, the Patron of World Youth Day, may intercede on behalf of our pilgrimage toward his beloved Krakow and help us as we prepare spiritually for our journey!

Why Do We Need to Teach Stewardship in Our Parishes? (continued from last week)

Stewardship Increases Participation and Vitality in Parish Ministries

Without a stewardship perspective, many parishes find themselves using all of their time and talent to raise treasure. Instead of doing ministry to the poor, the needy or the spiritually hungry, parishes just do endless fundraising. In contrast, when a parish embraces stewardship, parishioners are invited to share their unique talents in many different forms of ministry. Parishes often see new forms of ministry develop when parishioners are asked to prayerfully discern what special skills and talents God might be calling them to share with their parish community.

Stewardship Enriches Parishioners’ Prayer Life, Faith and Spirituality

Ultimately, before we give any time to any other activity, stewardship calls us to give time to God. Those who hear and understand that message begin to spend more time in Mass attendance, Eucharistic adoration, scripture reflection, private prayer and faith enrichment activities. If we are not spending time with God, we may be good volunteers or good donors, but we are not good stewards. We are not doing what God asks us to do because we have not taken the time to be with Him and ask for His guidance. By establishing a closer relationship with God, parishioners are able to truly change their lives. As they grow closer to God, they can more clearly hear how God is calling them to give more fully of their time, their talent and their treasure. They give out of deep love for God and find joy in that giving.

Communal services are celebrated during Advent and Lent.

Marriage ~ If you are considering marriage, a minimum of six months is required for preparation. A wedding date cannot be set until after the first meeting with the pastor. At that time, the diocesan and parish guidelines

will be explained.

Anointing of the Sick ~ Parishioners who are seriously or critically ill, or having surgery, should contact the pastor for the celebration of the

sacrament.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults ~ The R.C.I.A. is an ongoing formation process for adults who are interested in becoming a Catholic and would like to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First

Eucharist. Call the Parish Office for additional information.
