One: Focus on Quality, Not Quantity

• Don’t blindly follow people, with the hope of getting a follow back from them

• Make sure your followers qualify to be in your target market

• Having 10,000 irrelevant followers for your brand is as ineffective as having 0

Two: Expect for Rudeness, But Don’t Be Rude • Unlike traditional media, Social Media is two-

way, and interactive

• They can’t tell you “your brand sucks!” as a response to a TV commercials

• But they can do so on Twitter!

• Loud enough to be heard by other customers!

• Don’t react to rudeness with rudeness

• You represent the brand

Three: Know who are following you on Twitter • Hands on knowledge about your

followers

• Are they spammers?

• Can they actually buy from you?

• How many people follow them back?

• Are they regularly Tweeting?

Four: Don’t shout on Twitter. It’s not the Sunday fare

• You are not in the center of the universe!

• Your followers may not have enough time to pay attention

• Don’t shout to get their attention

• Excess use of capital letters is shouting

• Repeating same tweet is shouting

• Be patient!

• Ask interesting but simple questions from your followers

• The secret of keeping your followers engaged with your brand is to attract as much as relevant followers

Six: Listen more, and talk enough

• Most brands come on Twitter for just to talk about themselves

• Following too little people can be a sign that you are not ready to listen to others

• Regularly send @ replies to your followers
