Sin 1: Declaring You’re the Leader
• If you have to tell people you’re a leader, you’re not.
• If you use your position as the reason why people need to follow you, your decision probably stinks.

Sin 2: Assuming your Employees have your “Iron Man Core”
• Understand your “voice.” – Kouzes and Posner
• Every job and every technological advancement is either trying to solve a problem or enhance life.
• State your career, your business, in a “mission framework,” not in the “paths” to your mission.
• Above all else, keep selling your “Iron Man Core.”

Sin 3: Failure to Develop EI within your Team
• How many goals are hindered or not accomplished because of team members’ low self-awareness?
• How many goals are hindered or not accomplished because of team members’ low self-management?

• How many goals are hindered or not accomplished because of team members’ low others-influence?

Sin 4: Nurturing a Culture that kills Feedback
• The bottom line is the bottom line, but don’t make it more important than people. How do people really feel?
• Be proactively teachable; teach it as well.
• Performance manage AND performance evaluate.
• Master failure.

Sin 5: Forgetting to Evaluate Business Activities
• Don’t ever think you are the exception to the rule.
• Don’t turn principles into rules.
• Know the difference between lead and lag indicators.

Sin 6: Failing to Constantly Market your Business
• Are you more excited about what your marketing or how you are marketing?
• Remember, people naturally gravitate away from your product.
• Why do companies have a life span?

Sin 7: Knowing your Legacy
• You’re not doing as great as you think, and you’re not doing as bad as you think.
• Work on the leadership and management basics! These will turn into leadership and management success.
• Always have two empty chairs at the table: one speaks to your success, one to your failures.
