INTRODUCTION

GENERAL1. The first part (white pages) of this Digest of On-Flight Origin and Destination (OFOD) containsstatistics for the fourth quarter of 2000 and the second part (yellow pages) contains statistics for the 12-monthperiod ending 31 December 2000. Inthe period 1977-1981, the OFOD data were collected on an experimentalbasis, for the selected months of March, June, September and December. Beginning with 1982, the data havebeen collected and publishedon a quarterly basis with each issue containing aggregated data for the three monthsof a quarter.PROTECTING CONFIDENTIALITY2. Statistics published n this Digest were reported o ICAO on the Air Transport Reporting Form B(On-Flight Origin and Destination), which is reproduced on pages IV and V. The ICAO Council has directed thatthe data reported on this Form for each State and each airline shall be kept confidential by ICAO and that onlystatistics which do not reveal the traffic of individual States or airlines will be published or released by ICAO. Thepractical consequence of this policy is that no statistics for a city-pair are published in this Digest (or otherwisemade available) unless at least two airlines representingtwo different States have reported.

3. This Digest of Statistics contains the revenue traffic performed by airlines on scheduledinternational services. The data have been reported in accordance with the definition of on-flight origin anddestination traffic, as follows: the revenue traffic on a given flight (.e., the operation of an aircraft on a stage ornumber of stages with an unchanging flight number) subdivided by city-pairs in accordance with the point ofembarkation and point of disembarkation. The basis of organizationof the data contained n this Digest s thereforethe city-pair, which has been defined as "two cities between which travel isauthorized by a passenger icketor partof a ticket or between which shipments are made in accordance with a shipment document or a part of it (freightbill or mail delivery bill)".4. Due to the confidentiality directive, the revenue traffic data shown for each city-pair s thecombined total of the reporting airlines. These data consist of numberof passengers and tonnes of freight andfreight and mail. Data for freight and mail tonnes are given in to twosiecimal places. For further explanation as _to how the data have been arranged, see the section "Presentation of the Data", paragraphs 8 to 11 of thisIntroduction.5. For each city-pair, the airlines included in the revenue traffic totals are shown. For the fourthquarter of 2000, data for 163 nternationalscheduled airlines rom 66 Contracting States have been analyzed duringthe processing stagesof this Digest. These airlines reported a total of 11830 recordsof individual city-pairs inkedby internationalscheduled services. Of this total, 7 397 records have been excluded because they were city-pairsreported by only one airline. The rest (4 433 records) were combined to account for the 1 871 city-pairs ncludedin this Digest.

The information in the Digest is presented alphabetically by city-pairs Revenue traffic(passengers, freight and mail) is shown in the direction in which it was performed (for instance, to know the trafficin both directions between Rio de Janeiro-Tokyo, the total for Rio de Janeiro-Tokyo, appearing under R, shouldbe added to that of Tokyo-Rio de Janeiro, appearing under T).9. Due to space limitations, not more than fifteen letters are used for printing city names, but carehas been taken to reflect in the fifteen letters the full name of the city. In general, if an abbreviated name is usedfor a city, this abbreviation occurs toward the end of the name, in order to give the city its right place in alphabeticalorder.IO. Within each city-pair, the airlines whose data have been included in the revenue traffic totalsshown have been identified by the ICAO two-letter designators which are of general use in the aviation industry.An alphabetical list of these designators along with the airline abbreviation, airline full name, State of Registry andwhether the airline has reported data for this period is given on page XVIII.11.Statistics are given on the inside back cover.Notes and explanations of the statistical conventions and symbols used in ICAO Digests of

INTRODUCTIONGNRALITS1. La premire partie (pages blanches) du prsent recueil de statistiques d'origine et de destinationpar vol (OFOD) contient les statistiques relatives au quatrime trimestre de 2000 et la seconde partie (pagesjaunes) contient les statistiques correspondant la priode de 12 mois se terminant le 31 dcembre 2000. Entre1977 et 1981, es donnes OFOD ont t recueillies,a titre exprimental, pour les mois de mars, uin, septembreet dcembre. Depuis 1982, ces donnes sont recueillies et publies sur une base trimestrielle, de sorte quechaque recueil contient des donnes globales pour les trois mois d'un trimestre.PROTECTION DU CARACTRECONFIDENTIEL DES DONNES2. Les statistiques publies dans le present recueil ont t communiques a I'OACI au moyen duFormulaire B du transport arien (Origine et destination par vol), qui est reproduit aux pages VII-VI1 et IX. LeConseil de I'OACI dcid que l'Organisation prservera e caractre confidentiel des donnes communiquesau moyen de ce formulaire pour chaque tatet pour chaque entreprise et qu'elle ne publiera ou ne communiqueraque les statistiques qui ne dvoilent pas le trafic ralis par chaque tat et chaque entreprise. La consquencepratique de cette politique est que les statistiques relatives une paire de villes ne serontpublies dans le recueil(ou autrement diffuses) que si au moins deux entreprises reprsentant deux Etats diffrents les ont. ,

TENEUR DU RECUEIL3. Le prsent recueil de statistiques contient les donnes relatives au trafic payant ralis par lesentreprises sur leurs services nternationaux rguliers. Les statistiques ont t communiques de faon conforme la dfinition du trafic d'origine et de destination par vol, comme suit: trafic payant sur un vol donn (c'est-&dire;e rajei d'un a h n e ; su i une ou sur plusieurs 6ipes sans changemeni d e ruiii6r de v i j , venii6 entre esdiffrentes paires de villes d'aprs le point d'embarquement et le point de dbarquement. La base du classementdes donnes qui figurent dans le prsent recueil est donc la paire de villes, qui a t dfinie comme "deux villesentre lesquelles un voyage est autoris, par un billet de passage, ou une partie de billet de passage, ou entrelesquelles des expditions de passage, ou une partie de billet de passage, ou entre esquelles des expditions sontfaites conformment un document d'expdition, ou a une partie de document d'expdition (lettre de transportarien ou bordereau de livraison de la poste).4. En raison des instructions relatives au caractre confidentiel des donnes, les donnes sur le traficpayant qui se rapportentchaque paire de villes reprsentent e total combin des entreprises qui ont communiqudes renseignements. Ces donnes se composent du nombre de passagers et du nombre de tonnes de fret et deposte. Les donnes concernant le fret et la poste sont arrtes a la deuxime dcimale. Pour de plus amplesexplications concernant la manire dont les donnes sont prsentes,voir la section "Prsentation des donnes",aux paragraphes 8 11 de la prsente introduction.

GENERALIDADES1. Laprimera parte (pginas blancas) de este Compendio de estadsticas de origen y destino por vuelo(OFOD) contiene los datos correspondientes al cuarto trimestre de 2000, y la segunda parte (pginas amarillas)contiene las estadsticas correspondientes al perodo de doce meses que termin el 31 de diciembre de 2000.En el perodo comprendido entre 1977y 1981 se recopilaron, con carcter experimental, datos correspondientesa los meses seleccionadosde marzo, unio, septiembre y diciembre. A partir de 1982 os datos se han recopiladoy publicado rimestralmente, y cada edicin contiene las estadsticas acumuladas de los tres meses del trimestre.MEDIDAS PARA GARANTIZAR EL CARCTER CONFIDENCIAL DE L OS DATOS2. Las estadsticas que se publican en este Compendio se notifican por medio del Formulario B deinformacin de transporte areo (origen y destino por vuelo), que se reproduce en las pginas XII y XIII. Deconformidad con lo ordenado por el Consejo de la OACI, la Organizacin guardar el carcter confidencial de losdatos que se consignen en este formulario con respectoa cada Estado y a cada lnea area, y solo publicarodivulgar las estadsticas que no revelen el trfico de cada Estado o cada lnea area por separado. Laconsecuencia prctica de esta medida ser que en este Compendio no se publicarn, ni se divulgarn por otromedio, estadsticas de pares de ciudades, a menos que, un mnimo de dos lneas areas representantes de dosEstados diferentes kavan notificado datos.CONTENIDO DEL COMPENDIO

3. Este Compendio estadstico contiene datos sobre el trfico de pago efectuado por as neas areasen servicios internacionales regulares. Los datos se han notificado de acuerdo con la definicin de trfico deorigen y destino por vuelo, como sigue: el trfico de pago en un vuelo determinado (es decir, la operacin de unaaeroriavsdi;:n:e una o varias etapas sin que cambieel numers de rue ^), subdividido psr pares de ciudades, Yeconformidad con los puntos de embarque y desembarque. Por lo tanto, la base de la organizacin de los datoscontenidos en este Compendio es el par de ciudades, que se han definido como "dos ciudades entre las cualesse est autorizado para viajar en virtud de un billete o de una parte de este, o entre las que se efectan envosen virtud de un documento de expedicin (carta de porte areo o planilla de entrega de los despachos) o de unaparte de este".4.=- . Debido al carcter confidencial de estos datos, la informacin relativa al trfico de pago que seindica para cada par de ciudades es el total combinado de las lneas areas que notifican. Dichos datos consistenen el nmero de pasajerosy de las toneladas de mercanca y correo. Los datos correspondientes a las toneladasde mercanca y correo se indican con dos decimales. Para mayor informacin respectoa la manera de disponerlos datos, vase la seccin "Presentacinde los datos", prrafos 8 a IIde esta Introduccin.5. Para cada par de ciudades, se indican as lneas areas incluidas en los totales de trfico de pago.En la compilacincorrespondienteal cuarto trimestre de2000se han analizado los datos correspondientesa 163lneas areas internacionales egulares de66 Estados contratantes. Estas lneas areas notificaron11830 datosde pares de ciudades individuales unidas por servicios internacionales regulares. De este total se excluyeron7 97 datos por tratarse de pares de ciudades notificadas por una sola lnea area. Los restantes (4 433 datos)se combinaron para obtener los datos-sobreel trfico-de los-1 871 pres de ciudades que se incluyen en esteCompendio.
