FROM THE PRINCIPAL Lisa Morresey

Kia ora whānau, Getting back to normal Well, it has been a very learning focussed week, with teachers back into instructional teaching. Attendance has been at 92%, which is really pleasing to see. Let’s see if we can get our attendance back up over 95% next week. Within the level two health and safety guidelines, we are working hard to resume learning and as many extra-curricular activities and opportunities for students as we can. This week, we held hockey and jump jam trials. Netball and basketball trainings are beginning. Kapahaka and out of hours music tuition has started. Extension technology and arts begin on Friday. We are also pleased to inform you that community football and rugby is coming soon. Anchor AIMS Games We were very sad to hear about the postponement of the 2020 Anchor AIMS Games. This is disappointing but, at the end of the day, we must follow health and safety guidelines. We are working with the other four intermediates, to plan sporting fixtures that meet guidelines for level two. Buses Thank you to all of our families that have found alternative transport to school. Most of our bus routes will now be able to carry students as normal. 712 Palm Springs Golden Sands and 713b Domain Road are both running, with limited capacity. So, ensure that your student does have an alternate safety plan (a phone, or a neighbour or relative to walk to), just in case there are unforeseen bus issues. Please address any concerns to Baybus. Online learning Thank you to all of the students, staff and whānau, who completed the online/distance learning survey. If you have not yet completed the survey, you can complete the survey by clicking on this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdrPXSo9USxqKUh3uLygIDCFzDDahzBzyCreVtbBbBCuQfGnQ/viewform?usp=sf_link. We will share the results with you in our next newsletter. BYOD Thank you so much whānau! It’s incredible! 399 students have brought in their own devices to use in our classrooms. This has had a positive impact on the number of devices available in our classrooms. This means that our classrooms have enough devices for every single child. 1:1 here we come! Queen’s Birthday Weekend Our students are tired as they readjust back into school routines and early mornings. Enjoy the long weekend, but not too many late nights! Enjoy the sunshine.

Ngā mihi Whaea Lisa

DENTAL SERVICE AT MMI Dear Parents and Caregivers, We are excited to have the dental van back at MMI and wanted to give you a brief heads-up of how dental procedures will be working with COVID-19 restrictions. To ensure our services are safe, we will be calling each parent/caregiver prior to seeing your child to complete a COVID-19 risk assessment. If your child would like a support person, we ask that only ONE person comes along to the appointment please. This is to reduce contacts. Our appointment spaces will be limited and our target group is year 8 students – however, if your child is in pain, please do not hesitate to phone us on 0212847179. Many thanks, Tuawhitu Dental Team.

Please keep cleaning twice a day

This will enable you to:

receive news, newsletters, emergency alerts and important messages straight to your Smartphone

receive group messages for teams, clubs and special interest extra-curricular groups

securely send in an absence note for your child to the office

You may also find your other children’s schools and early childhood centres using the Beep app – all communications

in one place!

To download the FREE app:

1. Go to Google Play (Android)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nz.co.beep.android.beep

SPORTS INFORMATION

BASKETBALL COACHES AND MANAGERS NEEDED Dear Parents/Caregivers, We desperately still require coaches and managers for our MMI basketball teams, in the Monday night competition, in order to enable the students to play. Once the competition is confirmed by TCBA the requirements for coaches and manage will be:

To attend a training session with the students once a week. To coach/manage the team on Monday nights - usually 40 minute games between 4pm and

9pm. If you would like to coach/manage a basketball team, please email the teachers in charge of basketball: Jonas Turol - [email protected] Sharon Horne - [email protected] _____________________________________________________________________________________

To our amazing schools, It's with heavy hearts we're confirming the 2020 Anchor AIMS Games will be postponed until next year. We know that, for many of you, this year's tournament was going to be a bright ray of sunshine amid the Covid-19 gloom, something to aspire to and get life back to normality. The reality, however, is that normality is still a long way away for so many of our athletes, families, schools and communities. We have had a huge amount of feedback from people saying the spectre of Covid-19 and the associated financial and emotional factors would make it impossible for them to attend this year. We want to make sure that any tournament we hold is open to all, that we create amazing memories and joy instead of stress and hardship. We will be back, bigger and better than ever, from September 4-10, 2021... lock it in! Kind regards Vicki Semple | Anchor AIMS Games Tournament Director M 027 576 0066 | E [email protected] | W www.nzaimsgames.co.nz

U12 BOYS FOOTBALL

TEAMS

2020 SEASON PLAYERS NEEDED

We are currently putting our teams together for the upcoming football season and have 17 players.

Unfortunately, this is too many for one team, as there are only 9 on the pitch at once and not quite enough to field two teams. Tauranga City would like to have two teams in this division and they would like to see if there are any MMI boys interested. All of the necessary information is on their website, with the link below. https://tcafc.co.nz/ Please contact Jacinda on 021 194 4441.
