St. Joseph Parish Lenten Mission February 21, 22 & 23, 2010

(Sunday, Monday & Tuesday @ 7PM) The Lenten Mission will be held for three days, starting Sunday, February 21st at 7PM, the mission will start with Holy Mass and there will be priest available for confessions. Fr. Carmen B. Mele, O.P. From the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas will be leading us in our Lenten Mission.

Rev. Carmen B. Mele, O.P. Ordained a priest in 1980, Fr. Carmen Mele, O.P., has served in parochial ministry, diocesan ministry, priestly formation, and itinerant preaching. He currently directs the lay ministry formation program of the Diocese of Fort Worth. Born in 1947 and raised in Chicago, Fr. Carmen attended Our Lady of the Angels Grammar School, Fenwick High School, and Providence College (Rhode Island). Before entering the Dominican Order, Fr. Carmen served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia. He was ordained a priest in 1980. Since then, he has done priestly ministry in Honduras, Costa Rica, Italy, and Mexico as well as in the United States. Fr. Carmen has several postgraduate degrees: a doctor of ministry from Texas Christian University, a licentiate in moral theology from the Angelicum in Rome, and a mas-ter’s in public affairs from the University of Texas at Aus-tin. To extend his preaching vocation, Fr. LENTEN REGULATIONS

1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fri-days of Lent (excluding the So-

lemnity of St. Joseph per Canon 1251). 2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meat-less meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating be-tween meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are al-lowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and ab-

stinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of volun-tary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a perform-ance of works of charity and mercy.

El Padre Carmen B. Mele, O.P. de la Diócesis de Fort Worth, Texas nos estará guiando en esta Misión Cuares-mal.

El padre Carmen B. Mele, O.P. fue ordenado sacerdote en el 1980, El Padre Carmen Mele ha servido en el ministerio parroquial, ministerio diocesano, formación sacerdotal y ha también en el ministerio de la predica. Actualmente es el director del programa de la formación de

los laicos en la Diócesis de Fort Worth. Nació en 1947 y creció en Chicago, El Padre Carmen fue la Escuela de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, a la Secundaria Fenwick, al Colegio de la Providencia en (Rhode Island). Antes de entrar a la orden sacerdotal Dominicana, Fue vo-luntario de Peace Corps en Malaysia. Fue ordenado sacer-dote en 1980. Desde entonces, ha desarrollado su ministe-rio sacerdotal en Honduras, Costa Rica, Italia y México y en los Estados Unidos El padre Carmen tiene varios títulos; un doctorado de la Uni-versidad de Christian University, una licenciatura en teolo-gía moral de Angelicum en Roma, una maestría en aconteci-miento social publico de la Universidad de Texas en Austin. Baptisms: Pre-baptism Class is required before your date will be set. Please register two to three months in advance.

Weddings: Spiritual Preparation begins at least SIX months in advance. Do not make your res-ervations until you have met with pastor.

Sacrament of the Sick: First Fridays 7:30 am. & Communion Visits: Call the Parish Office.
