Reflection

Today we hear God choose Jeremiah for the role of biblical prophet. God warns the prophet that his message to the

kings and priests of Judah will be so challenging that he’ll meet with opposition. Biblical prophets weren’t out to

make enemies, but felt impelled to speak the truth--God’s truth--with love. It just so happened that their message

was often “tough love.”

Jesus, in our Gospel today, is a prophet visiting his hometown. He anticipates resistance, stating clearly that no

prophet is ever accepted in his native place. His words prove true as the people rise up to throw Jesus over a cliff!

How do we accept the prophetic message we hear proclaimed each Sunday? And would we invite the bearer of that

message home for Sunday dinner?

Today: Jer 1:4-5,17-19; 1 Cor 12:31-13:13; Luke 4:21-30

Entrance Antiphon: Save us, O Lord our God! And gather us from the nations, to give thanks to

your holy name, and make it our glory to praise you.

Responsorial Psalm: 70

“I will sing to your salvation.”

Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, Alleluia! The Lord sent me to bring Good News to the poor and

freedom to prisoners. Alleluia!

Communion Antiphon: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the land.

Next Week: Is 6:1-8; 1 Cor 15:1-11; Luke 5:1-11.
