PRAYER FOR LENTEN DAYSLoving Lord! Thank You for bringing me into these days of introspection. I take this

time to analyse my ways and meditate upon the ultimate sacrifices You have made for me, agrant sinner.

Lord! There were times when I had been so mean to others and when I had lost mypatience and integrity. There were times when I had lost faith in You when I had beenunfaithful to You without even acknowledging Your sacrificial love for me. Please forgive mefor all the sins I have committed against You as well as my fellow-men.

Let me regain the spiritual values I have lost and restore in me the original first lovefor You. I rededicate myself at Your feet Lord! Search me and fill me with Your divinepresence so that my life can reflect the Gospel. Let this Lenten season be a time ofrestoration and the means for renewed direction and perspective. Please guide me and makeme a channel of blessing to others. Thank You for helping me to reflect Your love and .sacrifice. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Pour preparer les arnes a la celebration de la fate de Paques, l'Eglise Catholique,institua une periode de 40 jours de penitence.

Pendant la periode du Carerne, on devait s'abstenir de jeux et de divertissements,et toutes les friandises et desserts etalent exclus. La viande et le vin etaient egalementinterdits durant le Carerne.

Le Carerne est un temps de priere et de partage. La penitence peut etre marqueepar le jeOne ou I'abstinence, comme I'abstention volontaire de viande et laitage, et parfois denos jours de desserts et de sucrerie. Les anciens rites etant de plus en plus oublies,aujourd'hui I'accent est davantage porte sur le caractere spirituel du Careme.

Le jeOne est donc plus spirituel, et chacun choisit la facon dont il va se priver dequelque chose dans sa vie quotidienne, pour se preparer dans la penitence durant les 40jours qui precedent la fate de Paques.

Depuis 1949, l'Eglise Catholique ne prescrit plus le jeOne que le Mercredi desCendres et le Vendredi Saint.
