    Turning Home into Hamas!

    Malachi Part 2Malachi 2

    Presented byPastor Justin Greene

    They were called line riders.

In many ways, it was the loneliest job on a largeranch.

The designated cowboy would load up his bedroll, fill his saddlebags, and head out to the farthest

boundaries of the spread. He would then make along circuit around the far-flung borders of theranch. Depending on the size of the bosss range, the job could take days or weeks in the saddle.

Along the way, the rider made certain that cattlewith the ranch brand didnt stray too far from home

range, and that stock from neighboring ranchesdidnt wander in to sample the grass. He checkedthe herd for sickness, noted the condition ofwatering holes, and kept his lariat handy in case hehad to rope an adventurous cow out of a bog.Armed with a .45 pistol on his hip and a Winchesterin the saddle boot, the lonely rider kept his eyesopen for rustlers, cougars, or wolves who mightprey on the stock especially the young.

Even in the years before fences began criss-crossing the wide rangelands, there really wasntmuch problem with boundaries. Everyone prettymuch knew where they were. The landmarks wereclear: a creek, a long ridge, a butte, a stand of

timber, a well-rutted trail, a single, wind-twistedcottonwood. There were a thousand ways torecognize the borders of the home range.

In later years, of course, the line riders becamefence riders, inspecting the fences and makingrepairs wherever there was a break. If cattle had

drifted through a break, the cowboy would gatherthem, if possible, and drive them back towardhome.

Everyone used to know the moral boundaries inAmerica, too.

It was a community that would ride the fences, keeping watch over the young and dispatching the

wolves and rustlers who had somehow slipped onto the home range. In recent years, however, mostof Americas moral fences have been systematicallyremoved.

There are even those who would deny they wereever there at all.1

    THE TRAIL TO TREACHERY

    A BROKEN HOME STARTS WITH A BROKENFAITH(v. 11).

We lose our way as fathers when we forgetthe Father(v. 10).

Physical adultery is sourced in spiritualadultery.

A BROKEN HOME LEAVES A TRAIL.

    There is a progression:

    1. Craving Carnality(v. 11)

    2. FakingYour Faith (v. 13)

    4. Chasing OffYour Children (v. 15)

    God says,I HATE THIS!

    THE RETURN FROM TREACHERY

    WRAP

    Some Good News:

    1. The actual divorce rate has never been close to50 percent.3 Its significantly lower and has beendecliningover the last thirty years.

    2. Most marriages arent just so-so. The vast majorityare happy.

    3. The rate of divorce in the church is notthe same asamong the non-churchgoing population. It too issignificantly lower.

    4. Remarriages arent doomed. A significant majoritysurviveand thrive.

    5. Most marriage problems arent caused by big-ticket issues, so being in a marriage, or fixing atroubled one, doesnt have to be as complicated aspeople think. Little things can often make a big

    difference.2
