Firstly, I would like to extend my most sincere appreciation for the members of the RCB Board who served the Club excellently. From their reports during the Club Assembly, they have accomplished far more than expected. There is more work to be done and they derive inspiration from everyone’s continued and usual support. We look forward working harder together to fully implement all the goals for the year and for a successful celebration of the Club’s 75th Anniversary!

19 October - The RYLA delegation of RCB sponsored Rotaractors and Interactors took the early trip today, Friday, for Grande Island, Subic. SAA Jun and Rtn. Lani will be the guardians of the 19 young people from 19 to 21 October. By 1:30 in the afternoon, Rtn. Lani texted me to say the Rotaractors and Interactors were all safe and enjoying as they were ferried to Grande Island.

During their pre-departure briefing at Baguio Patriotic School, we did witness these young people full of enthusiasm, excited to experience a part of the Rotary world and to bond together in the name of the Club. Aside from the usual instructions, do’s and don’t’s, they were advised to have harmony with each other. They were encouraged to be more understanding, considerate and supportive of each other – the traits of true future leaders and Rotarians.

21 October - All systems go too, for the first MODELS for this Rotary Year which will be in Kayapa, Bakun. This is in cooperation with our long time and ever supportive partner, HEDCOR. Kayapa takes about a four (4) hour drive towards the ilocos side of Bakun. We are happy to announce, further, that our daughter Club, Rotary Club of Vigan will share in the joy of service. They have committed to send in their doctor and dentist members. A great help, especially so that we will serve quite a contingent in Kayapa!

26 October – PP Veeh has made sure everyone was invited to participate in the next MODELS which will be in Ampucao, Benguet. This place is a lot nearer and accessible compared to Kayapa, Bakun. For all members, do fit this MODELS in your schedule.

It is fun to read the GML. Going through the emails, I found that PP Veeh has forwarded the bulletin to almost all the members. You will notice that under worthy news, they have published three articles reflecting what RCBaguio has accomplished for the past month. Well written and entertaining articles this October were Sec. Baby Kaur’s “Less is More” referring to the Feeding Program and PP Chris Peralta’s “ About Intrepid and Industrious Rotarians, Red Fire Engine Trucks and Pedestrian Overpasses” referring to our Overpass Cleaning. Of course, there was the grateful message of Governor Tony for the RCB Hosting of the District RCC Livelihood Seminar.

For this Vocational Month the Club, under the Community A, specifically the sub-committee on Literacy, will grant Vocational Awards. We have scheduled the affair on 27 October 2012. Rtn. Naas will keep us posted of how the day will go. Let us offer our help that the Committee may need as it looks grand!

My dear friends and fellow Rotarians,

October is the month of Vocational Service, one of the five (5) avenues of service.

There are many ways to serve through this avenue, and you will read about some of them, in the October issue of our GML.

It is important, that one of the goals, within the strategic priority of Enhancing Public Image and Awareness, is to emphasize Vocational Service. Enhancing Public Image and Awareness, leads to more members and again, to more service projects, contributing to an even better public image.

All of the work we do, in giving career guidance to our high school and college students, to educate children, to improve mental health, to help families live healthier lives – all of this is vocational service.

Our youth and adult programs, are a very important part of this Avenue of Service.

We must remember, that the youth of today, are the leaders of tomorrow. By helping to develop young leaders and bringing younger members, into our prestigious organization, we strengthen our communities and Rotary’s future.

MeMbers’ Corner

The internet indeed became one of the best tool to communicate and to provide information. While Rotary Club of Baguio have it’s own official website at www.rcbaguio.org, Rotarians from around the world uses this advantage. Here are some interesting sites you might find interesting.

The Rotary Club of Baguio Cluster 1-C District 3790 7

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you and to the entire Rotary Club of Baguio for endorsing me to the very last Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange bound for Orlando, Florida on October 26 to November 25, 2012. My sincerest apology goes to you, however, for not being able to personally thank you during your weekly meeting. PP Raul Peralta of Free Port (Subic Bay), our GSE Team Leader, has called for an urgent meeting to practice our cultural presentation and finalize other GSE matters. Previous GSE calls fell on a Saturday which warranted me to be absent from work.

There were fourteen (14) applicants to the GSE Program and I luckily got a spot in the team. Other successful applicants are: a Marketing Brand Manager of Bounty Fresh Chicken (Pampanga), a teacher of Ilocos Sur National High School, and a female Police Inspector (Downtown Session). An elementary teacher from San Fernando, La Union had to give up her spot for health reason and for having denied her application for a US Visa. All the team members were blessed to have been granted a ten-year multiple-entry US Visa.

I am most especially grateful to PP Benito V. Sunga for encouraging me to apply for this program. He even sat down with me to lecture on what the Rotary Club is all about including its nature, history, and key people. He also gave tips on how I should carry myself during the interview.

My application for a one-month leave without pay from my work as University Professor in Saint Louis University for this purpose has been granted by our University

administrators

The pre-departure preparation is in itself an experience that I will remember. Preparation of various documents, uniforms, name plates, brochures, calling cards, cultural presentation, tokens to host families, etc. and, above all, enforcing maximum tolerance in dealing with personalities and proximity constraints are challenges that we have to go through.

We were just informed that we ask for about thirty bannerettes from our respective sponsoring clubs which will be handed symbolically over to your counterparts in District 6980. Please feel free to advise me as to what course of action to take along this line.

Attached herein is a picture of the GSE Team taken at the restaurant of our team leader in Subic Bay Free Port Zone

You may contact me at 09228374958 or at [email protected] for any concern that I may be of help.

Once again, MARAMING SALAMAT PO. I look forward to meet you and your members for feedback regarding the program

Sincerely,

(Sgd.) Allan Frank B. Silva, CPA, MSBA

Finally she informed that we have 10 scholars from UP and UB.

Financial PositionDir. David Rees

Dir. David spoke for Treas. Marilyn who is on leave and in the USA.

He presented a Statement of Accounts for the first quarter to compare income and expenses to the budget.

He informed us that the RCC Seminar should be closed with a small profit of around P 10,000.00.

As usual, many questions came about the financial position of many items.

Particularly we have the problem of the financing of our Canao with the advertisements which are not enough or not collected.

One note of enjoyment has been done by our Anns who arrived after their own meeting with very colorful wigs. One nice photos of their group has been done.

The meeting was adjourned at 4.00 pm.
