“Welcome Jesus at Christmas time, not in a cold manger of our heart ... but warm with love for one another!” ... Our Christmas celebrations begin on Wednes-day (24), Christmas Eve, with two Children’s Masses, one at 4:00pm led by our Saint John School children, and a second at 6:00pm led by our chil-dren from Religious Education. Then we have a Family Mass at 8:00pm, with the grand ‘Midnight Mass’ at 11:00pm. Join us! ... On Thursday (25), Christmas Day, our Masses are at 7:30am, 9:00am, 10:30am, and 12:00pm (Spanish). Please note, there will be no 5:00pm Mass on Christmas Day! Christ is born! ... Friday (26) is the feast of Saint Stephen, one of the seven deacons of the Acts of the Apostles, and the first martyr! ... John the Evangelist died around 100 AD at Ephe-sus. He was the son of Zebedee, and the brother of James. He is referred to as the ‘disciple whom Je-sus loved’! He authored three letters, the Book of Revelation and the most spiritual of all the Gospels. His symbol is the eagle. He is patron of Asiatic Turkey. We are proud to embrace him as our par-ish patron. His feast day is this Saturday (27). Happy feast day! ... John lived to be nearly 100 years of age, and tra-dition has it that his ‘parishioners’ grew tired of his one sermon, which relentlessly emphasized: “Love one another!” And we continue to try! ... Heartfelt thanks to all of our priests who as-sisted at our Parish Reconciliation Service on Wednesday (17)! And to Rosella Greco, Matt and Carol Williamson, who served up a delicious dinner for all! Forgiveness and freedom! ... Our church Christmas Flowers are a wonderful way to honor our loved ones, living and deceased, over the Christmas season. Special envelopes are available in the bulletin and Parish Office. ... John of Kanty died in 1473, in Cracow, Poland. A scholar, he was noted for his austerity, simplicity and charity toward the poor. The story is told that once John was accosted by robbers who took his money. They asked if he had any more and he re-plied in the negative. When they had gone he dis-covered some coins sewn in his cloak, ran after the robbers, and gave them the money. They were so amazed that they gave back what they had taken. His feast day is this Tuesday (23).

... Our bulletin cover this week is a photo of the stained-glass window, donated by John and Adela Stanton to our old Saint John Church in 1946. All the stained glass windows from the old church now adorn our Parish Office Conference Room! ... Need to know more? Why not visit our parish website at www.saintjohnencinitas.org and our school website at saintjohnschool.com ... Our youth are preparing and serving a delicious Pancake Breakfast in our Hall today (21). All funds will go towards their ‘Building a home for a needy family in Tijuana’ project. Great cause, good food, and mighty people. ... Here at Saint John, we are blessed with Adora-tion of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 24 hours, day and night, except during Sunday Masses. Wow! ... John Derrico, from our Saint Vincent DePaul So-ciety, and his great team, distributed Christmas Baskets to our needy families on Saturday (20), with the support and assistance of so many! ‘Thank you’ for all you make possible. ... Our retired Priests, Brothers and Sisters, from our Religious communities, really rely on us in their retirement! Please remember to give generously the special collection last weekend (14) for the Re-tirement Fund for our Religious. Special enve-lopes are still available. ... Our young adults (age 18 - 39), from around the Diocese, will gather for a New Year celebration this Tuesday (31), beginning with Adoration at 9:00pm, Mass at 10:00pm, and a social from 11:00pm to 2:00am, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1629 Columbia Street, San Diego. For more info go to www.yamsd.org. ... Be sure to find time over the Christmas to visit the beautiful Crib Scene in the church. Bring the children and grandchildren, and tell the story! … Our Religious Ed children, and Junior-High ‘Faithways’ resume classes on Monday (5)! ... Our Saint John School children return to the classroom also on Monday, January 5. … Enjoy the fresh home-made tamales available this weekend (21) from our Guadalupanas! ... Join us on New Years Day, Thursday (1) for a special Family Mass at 9:00am. Welcome 2015! ... Be sure to keep Christ in Christmas! ... “You better watch out ... you better not cry ... a greater than Santa is coming by!” A very ‘Happy Christmas’ to all!
