2011 Pastors and Leaders ConferenCeThe theme of our National Pastors and Leaders
Conference in May 2011 was GO! – 21st Century
Evangelism and our selection of experienced CRC
speakers powerfully challenged us to get fully
aligned with Jesus' Great Commission. The DVDs
of all the sessions are available and they are an
excellent equipping resource for your churches.
new LoCaL ChurCh ModeL ConstitutionIt was during the 2011 conference that the Local
Church Draft Constitution was presented and
accepted by the National Council as the model
Constitution for new CRC churches and a guideline
for existing churches. Several churches have
now adopted this as their governing document
and others are going through the process in
consultation with their State Executives. I am
so pleased with the best possible governance
practices and ministry principles contained in this
constitution and it’s so proactive in balancing our
autonomous-interdependent ethos as a family
of churches. Many thanks to the Team that did a
huge amount of work to produce this excellent
document (Pastors Bruce Sharman, Neil Milne,
Mike Cronin, Norm Reed and Nathan Bettcher).
austraLian Missions offiCe Pastor Mike Groom (Senior Minister of Waurn Ponds
Community Church) who was doing an excellent
job as Australian Missions Director felt it was time
for him to let go of this National responsibility. I am
so thankful that Pastor Mike Cronin accepted this
crucial position as Australian Missions Director
when we approached him. Mike has a wealth of
experience as a former Victorian State Chairman
and our National Chairman between 1988-1996
and, along with his wife Lois, has a passionate
heart for international missions. Please read of
the positive things happening across the world
in our PULSE magazine (available on the CRC
Missions website) and also from Mike’s report
in this update. The Missions Office has now
transferred to South Eastern Christian Centre,
although Judi Shirley continues in her role at the
Finance Office (still located at Waurn Ponds).
National ChairmanIt’s a joy serving Jesus through our CRC
movement and to share with you about our journey since our last National gathering.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to Pastor
Mike Groom for overseeing this area and also
to Judi Shirley who assists greatly in practically
facilitating our International Missions Vision.
PoLoso faMiLy uPdateWe shared with you in March that Pastor Nathan
Poloso (our former Chairman in the Solomon
Islands) was granted a permanent residency visa
here in Australia. This has been an answer to prayer
and a testimony to the faith and perseverance
of Nathan, his wife Lydia, their two boys and
Pastor Mike Groom, who has been supporting
them since Nathan’s medical condition meant
that he had to stay here in Australia to stay alive.
This means that Nathan’s medical costs for his
dialysis treatment is now covered by Medicare.
We’re now working to eliminate the $211,000 debt
incurred at covering Nathan’s medical and living
expenses before his permanent residency was
granted. I so am grateful that so many of you have
contributed towards this debt and I encourage
all our CRC Churches to prayerfully consider
giving so that we can eliminate this debt that our
Missions account is carrying as soon as possible.
CoLoMbo ProjeCt uPdateThanks also to the many churches who have
been contributing towards the Colombo
Project. Contributions received to date have
almost covered the land purchase and we will
soon be in a position to start building! We will
share further on this at the convention and
post updates as things start to happen.
wider ConneCtions An interesting development for me has been
the invitation to connect with two Apostolic
organisations. Firstly, I was invited by Bishop Dag
Heward-Mills to join his ‘Healing Jesus Crusade’
Board, which is a great honour and opportunity
for the CRC to connect and learn from what I
estimate to be the most influential evangelical
force in Africa right now, next to Reinhard Bonnke.
Dag’s denomination called Lighthouse Chapel
International, have planted over 1200 churches
in the last 24 years, which is pretty amazing and
I’m gaining a lot of insight by visiting Accra Ghana
each year for the Board gathering and to share at
their massive Iron Sharpeneth Iron Conference,
which had 20,000 attend the night rallies.
I was also invited to join the Empowered21
Oceania Cabinet. This is an International initiative
(endorsed by the Pentecostal World Fellowship
of which the CRC is also a member) with the
audacious goal, ‘That every person on Earth would
have an authentic, life transforming, encounter
with the Presence and Power of the Living God by
2033.’ Let’s reclaim Pentecost Sunday as churches
and make it an annual focus in the CRC that will
see many thousands of people get Born Again
and receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
affiLiation reforMsSadly over the last 12 months, we have had
four Victorian churches disaffiliate from our
denominational family. This has been a difficult
and unpleasant process, but it has made us
aware that we need to implement some positive
reforms that will strengthen our fellowship
connections as a family of churches.
2012 rise uP – internationaL PeoPLes ConventionI trust that as we explore the theme of discipleship
together, we will experience fruitful growth as we
rededicate ourselves to be fully devoted followers
of Christ. Our guest speakers in Jackie Pullinger,
Paul Scanlon and Harvey Carey are sure to leave
an indelible impact on us with their unique and
powerful testimonies of how God has used each of
them. In particular I’m looking forward to hearing
the good news stories from across the CRC world.
2013 revivaLNext year, our National Pastors and Leaders
Conference will be all about REVIVAL – in our
personal lives, our churches and across our
world. Some new aspects we are planning for this
event will be a training stream for kids and youth
leaders, an afternoon-evening program along
with the launch of our third Australian Strategic
Directions 2013-2018. Take full advantage of the
early-bird discounts and join us at Kingston
City Church, Melbourne on October 2-4, 2013.

At our National Council meeting on Sept 27th, we
will be holding National Executive elections. I am
half way through my four-year term as Chairman
and our State Chairs (Pastor Bruce Sharman,
Victoria; Pastor Hans Voortman, SA/NT/WA; Pastor
Vicki Gilchrist, NSW/QLD/ACT; Pastor Greg Jones,
TAS) are automatically voted on as has been our
practice for several years. Pastor Bruce Sharman
is again standing for the position of National
Vice-Chairman. Pastor Ian Miller (National Church
Health Director), Pastor Rob Nyhuis (National
Training Director), Pastor David Wright (National
Church Planting Director) and Pastor Mike
Cronin (Australian Missions Director) will fill the
remaining roles. As there are no other nominees
it is anticipated that these will be the elected
members. I highly commend each member to
you as ministers of great integrity and leadership
capacity. It is good to know that the senior
leadership of our movement is in good hands.
I would also like to thank Janet Brice (Executive
Secretary) and Nathan Bettcher (National
Administrator) for their service in the National
Office. Without their ongoing assistance, I could
not do all that I do in my role as National Chairman
and it’s been great to see how they have both
developed as spiritual leaders through their direct
involvement in the CRC. Nathan will finish up in his
role at the end of the year as he returns to full-time
post-graduate study and he will be sorely missed.
I believe the best is yet to come for the CRC
and as I visit the State Conferences each year
the sense of love and unity among us reveals
a really health scene. I can see the potential
for new leaders to rise up, for new churches
planted, new innovative ministry opportunities
in Australia and new missionary endeavours
to reach the Nations of our world, plus much
more. All this is possible when we keep our eyes
on Jesus and whole-heartedly serve him.
As always, it’s an honour to serve the best
interests of our great movement.
Yours Sincerely,
Pastor Bill Vasilakis National Chairman

NSW/ACT/QLDWhat a privilege it is to serve
our awesome churches in
NSW, ACT and QLD! I love what
God is doing in each of our
churches and the fellowship
that exists between them.
Building these relationships is so important
and continues to be a focus for our States.
In terms of State events, it was great to join with
the Victorian pastors at Albury last year and hear
from Joel Holm. We have also had some excellent
retreats which are becoming important events
in our State calendar. This includes the Pastor
and Spouses retreat on ministry and personal
health, plus our Emerging Leaders retreat where
over 60 attended with Pastor Tim Lochens as
our guest ministry. Our State Youth camps at
Condobolin also continue to be important events.
It’s been great to see Caroline Dennis emerging
as our State and National Kids Director. She is
making contact with many of our churches and
helping to resource and encourage leaders in this
area. I’d like to also thank Mel Beer who is moving
on after serving around seven years as secretary
and treasurer. Thanks for all your hard work Mel!
Thanks also to our State Executive members. It’s a
privilege to serve Jesus and our churches with you.

SA/NT/WAIt’s again been my privilege to
serve as State Chairman in SA/
NT/WA and to lead our State
Executive. I’m encouraged by
the sense of fellowship across
the State and to see Churches
ministering in their respective communities.
We enjoyed Joel Holms ministry in October
2011 at our State gathering. Ian Miller was also
outstanding in March this year when he spoke to
us about Healthy Pastors and Healthy Churches.
Other State gatherings this year have included our
Elders and Board members day, Administrators
day, plus various youth activities that have been
taking place. These are such important times
as we have ongoing fellowship together.
It’s been exciting to see what individual churches
and ministers are doing in their local scenes. It’s
been good to see some new church plants in the
last few years and I’m trusting this will continue,
especially in the Indigenous communities of Central
Australia. It’s been a joy to see some more churches
reaching milestone anniversaries and reflect on
the many years of good work in SA, NT and WA.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our State
Executive team who continue to provide leadership
and support. I’m looking forward to the next 12
months and all that God has in store for us.

TasmaniaTassie has continued to do well
throughout 2011-2012. There’s a
strong sense of fellowship and
connection across the Pastors
here and it’s always great to
meet together during the year.
Individual churches are doing some great things
for God which is exciting. Launceston has almost
finished their massive facilities extension,
and CFC Hobart has developed an effective
prison ministry program at Risdonvale through
various contacts. These things speak to our
community of Jesus’ love and saving grace.
As always, I want to thank all our Pastors and
Churches for the fantastic work they do and
special thanks to the State Executive members
who continue to support the work in Tassie.

VictoriaMinistry life is not without its
highs and lows, and we have
certainly experienced this in
Victoria over the past year.
We have had two outstanding
State Conferences. In October
2011 we combined with NSW Pastors at Albury
to hear from guest speaker Joel Holm on the
subject of Church-Centred Mission. Then in
March this year, Peter McHugh spoke to us about
discipleship and the new creation message.
There have been several good news stories of new
ministry initiatives and facility expansions across
the State. In particular, Cranbourne have expanded
their school facilities and celebrated a great
achievement as one of the top schools in the State
on the NAPLAN (National Literacy and Numeracy)
tests. Well done! They are now looking at the
possibility of starting other campuses in the future.
There is activity taking place in the various
areas of kids & youth ministry, training,
missions and church planting. For example, it’s
been a personal joy for me to be involved in
the planting of two international churches –
Vancouver, Canada and Greenwich, England.
It’s been a transitionary time in Victoria too as
you can see from the credential matters table.
I’d like to thank all our Pastors and Churches for
the ministry they provide week to week, and
particularly to our State Executive who continue
to serve the movement wholeheartedly for Jesus.

National MissionsIt’s been a privilege for me in the last twelve months
to step into the role of Australian Missions.
The International vision of ‘a presence in every
nation by 2045’ has major implications for our
mission’s involvement and I’m encouraged
by the many various missionary projects
that our churches are participating in.
According to a survey earlier this year CRC
churches are now involved in ministry in 50
nations. Not all of these would be at the level
of a physical presence in each nation (i.e.
an effective ongoing ministry in the nation)
although many of them are, and the remainder
are at least a positive step in that direction.
Our International Missions Strategy Team (IMST)
has been talking at length about the changing
scene of recognising new fields and new policies.
As a result, we have come up with several
policy initiatives which we believe will help
to shape our growing International efforts.
Pulse magazine is now being published quarterly
with Katelyn Fowler as the Editor. This is proving
to be an effective avenue for communicating
what is happening in our various fields around
the globe. Pulse is being distributed by email,
as well as being published on the website.
Hard copies are also available for purchase. For
more information, head to crcmissions.org
As the next step toward fulfilling our
vision, churches will be encouraged to
‘Adopt a Nation’. Information on this will
be presented at the Convention.
You can see the Missions Office financial reports
elsewhere in this update. I’d like to thank Judi
Shirley for the incredible hard work she does
in maintaining this area. I’d like to also thank
Pastor Mike Groom for his contribution as the
former Australian Missions Director. I know that
his heart and passion is for missions and I look
forward to seeing what God has in store for him.
Finally, if you want any more information on
our CRC Missions you can contact the Office at
Endeavour Hills or check out the website. Please
continue to pray for and support Missions in your
local church. It’s so important to reach our world
with the transforming message of the Gospel.

International ReportWithin the CRC, both corporately & at a local church level,
we are seeing a greater awareness & engagement in missions which is very encouraging to witness.
There are now many differing ministry
expressions into Nations which were previously
considered to be outside our sphere of
influence. The task of reaching our world for
Jesus is becoming more tangible and possible
in the thinking of our leaders and churches.
However, the face of our present world is changing
rapidly and operating in the nations demands
a new adaptability and readiness to change
in some of our modus operandi. Corporate
businesses that operate in this changing world
(and particularly in those nations which are
undergoing some measure of instability or turmoil)
are making the changes necessary for them to
successfully pursue their stated objectives.
As a fellowship of National CRC Organisations, we
must also respond to the ever changing needs of
our world if we are to reach it with the Gospel. We
should regularly consider the possibility of making
changes and adjusting to the way we do missions
in those nations that we are already engaged in to
advance what we are commanded in Christ to do.
To presume that the methods or approaches that
have proven to be successful in one nation will be
the same in another is a wrong assumption. The
factors of diversity and timing within a nation
(i.e. what is happening within a nation at any
given time) must be considered if we are to be
successful in reaching our mission objectives.
Also we must be more discerning and ‘alert’
to what opportunities there are for missions
in the nations. Often there are ‘hidden’ things,
(places, peoples, opportunities) in the nations
which are not obvious to a casual observation
or to the general public view. These hidden
things need to be discovered; they need to
be searched out. So that is why we must be
proactive in our searching out opportunities
and the continued questioning as to what God
would have us be engaged with in these things
However we should not take every opportunity that
is presented to us, otherwise we may find ourselves
engaged in something which is not directly God’s
will for us. Simply, we need to be more discerning in
these matters than we may have been in the past.
Great opportunities and a Great God must surely
result in great exploits for God. What an exciting
time to live and what exciting discoveries there
are to be made! The future of our movement
is as exciting as our faith will make it.

Strategic ReportsChurCh heaLthUpdate: Church Health continues to be a major
focus in the CRC. SA and NSW both held conferences
on this topic and several churches are tapping into
the many excellent diagnostic tools for assessing
church health. Pastor Ian Miller and the Church
Health team continue to meet and discuss the
needs of Churches and Pastors in this area, and they
are a wonderful resource group to help in this area.
The Next 12 Months: We’ll be reviewing the 2008-
2013 Strategic Directions and, in preparation for the
next 5-year Strategic Directions, will be asking for
Pastors to send their feedback. The main challenge
is for Churches to keep up-to-date and informed as
to the various help that is out there in this area.
ChurCh PLantingUpdate: The Church Planting Toolshed has
continued to be very successful over the past 12
months and there is a great heart and motivation
for church planting across the movement. Several
churches are starting outreach activities with
the hope of these becoming new congregations.
Pastor David Wright continues to champion this
area and mentor our new outreach Pastors.
The Next 12 Months: More Toolsheds are being
planned for this year and next year. The church
planting financial grant continues to be available
for new outreaches from the State and National
Offices. It’s important to keep praying, dreaming
and stepping out in faith as we aim to reach
our target of doubling our churches by 2020.
worLd MissionsUpdate: There has been so much taking place
in the area of world missions with the the
Colombo Project, our International Strategic
Directions 2010-2015, plus Walhalla Faith Training
Center. See Pastor Mike Cronin’s Missions
report for other things that are happening.
The Next 12 Months: The International Missions
Strategy Team (IMST), which consists of Pastors
Bill Vasilakis, Mike Cronin, Neil Milne, Barry
Silverback and Mike Groom, are looking at the
process of recognising new fields and credential
applicants, which will have significant impact on
achieving our stated goals and also give guidance
to achieving our aim of having a CRC presence
in every Nation by 2045. Mike Cronin and the
missions team working with him will keep you
posted with further PULSE magazine updates.
training & LeadershiP deveLoPMentUpdate: It’s been great to see an increase of
student enrolments this year in VIC and NSW,
with numbers remaining steady in SA. The
National Training team are working towards
streamlining the administration process under
one National office and updating some of our
video teaching to keep up with new content.
The Next 12 Months: The National Training
team under Pastor Rob Nyhuis’ leadership is
working towards building student registrations
for 2013 and providing some of the new video
material as it becomes available. Registration
forms for 2013 are available in the display area
at convention and if you want more information
you can contact the Training Office in your State.
generationsUpdate: Pastor Tim Lochens has been working
with the National Youth team in preparation
for RELOAD ARISE Youth Conference. This bi-
annual youth event now happens at the same
time as the International People’s Convention
which is really exciting. Many other local events,
camps and training days also have been taking
place across the States. It’s also been great to
welcome Pastor Caroline Dennis as the National
Kids Director and she is making contact with
churches and providing support and resources to
many CRC churches in the area of kids ministry.
The Next 12 Months: We are planning a new
training stream for kids and youth leaders at our
2013 REVIVAL Conference. This will include top-
notch speakers with experience to help lift the bar
right across all our churches in this area. We will
also be brainstorming new ideas in preparation
for the next Strategic Directions as well.

A Vision for the FutureAfter operating out of rented buildings for
many years in very difficult circumstances,
the CRC in Colombo, Sri Lanka will
soon have their own facilities.
As a CRC Movement we have been operating

and operating Children’s homes.
For a number of years the CRC has been keen to
secure permanent facilities in the Capital, Colombo.
In May 2010 we were able to purchase land in an
ideal location at a very reasonable price. Plans are
now underway to build multi-purpose facilities
for the operation of the church, offices, residential
and training. The purchase of the land and stage
one of the project will cost about $500,000.
We are now raising the finance to enable us to
