national level.

Training priorities during a Snap General Election

• Training sessions• Street briefings • Smaller groups• 1-to-1 sessions

• Briefing sheets• Webinars• e-learning platform

Ways to train

Setting up a face to face training session checklistHave a clear aim for the session

• Who is your audience? Advertise and promote? What will motivate people to attend?

• Have you run through the session – do you give enough time for feedback and participation?

• Try to encourage in the session Participation Sharing Role Play Practical link to their roles and next steps Opportunity to keep in touch and share thoughts and best practice

Setting up a training session checklist

Good training environment – a checklist

• Prepare early• Bright lights• Comfortable temperature • Neat layout • Comfy chairs• Have plenty of extra materials, tea, coffee, water• Breaks

Setting up a training session checklistAccessibility

• Ensure the room is accessible to all, including those with limited mobility• Location - If participants need to travel to the session, ensure that this

involves no hardship e.g. difficult to park or a long walk• Convenience - Readily accessible toilets, tea / coffee, lunch etc. helps people

return on time following breaks• Obstructions - Select a room that’s free of obstructions that might obstruct

participants’ view• Distractions - Select a room that is free from distractions and noise

Seating arrangements

Four cornerstones to think about in developing and delivering a training session

1. The introduction• You introduce the

topic, introduce yourself, and most importantly introduce the members.

2. What members will want to know!• Why are they

learning this topic?• How can it help

Labour win?

3. Adults learn better when…• they are involved• given clear hands-on instructions• do something rather than just reading or discussing• learning is in informal but organised environments• materials are presented through a variety of methods with

practical examples• learning situations are co-operative and in groups• not pressured, tested or judged• there is time for reflection and short breaks between topics

4 End of a session• Ask people to reflect quietly on their own and write down

what their next steps will be to implement what they have learned, what resources they’ll need and what will most help them.

• Finish off the course by going round each learner and asking them what they gained most from taking the session. Make sure everyone gives an answer as this is a great way for them to reflect upon what they’ve learnt.

• Finish with a round of applause for everyone involved and the feel-good feeling will last long after the end of the course!

Putting together a session

Who remembers what we do at the end of a session?

End of a session• Ask people to reflect quietly on their own and write down

what their next steps will be to implement what they have learned, what resources they’ll need and what will most help them.

• Finish off the course by going round each learner and asking them what they gained most from taking the session. Make sure everyone gives an answer as this is a great way for them to reflect upon what they’ve learnt.
