What is a Learning Content Management System?

“A Learning Content Management System (LCMS) typically provides a multi-user environment where administrators, instructors, and content managers can create, store, reuse, and manage learning objects from a central object repository.

{

Advantages of an LCMS

• Fast way to communicate• Complete assessments and issue certificates

electronically• Reach people all over• Can use educational content already created

on Microsoft software (ppt. doc. Etc.)

{

Dis-advantages of an LCMS

• Resources needed for updating website• Training for staff

• My school currently uses WordPress and it’s great, but we do have the above issues

Ideas for Classroom Use

Increased student engagement: Students have 24/7 access to

resources, announcements, grades, etc.

Students can email from within the course space to fellow classmates

Absent students can check for updated content, schedules, and announcements without requesting information individually

Students can view current information, such as links to websites, articles, videos and other multimedia

Ideas for Classroom Use

I visited a school in Corcoran, CA where students were using Schoology. The teacher would upload their reading selection, and each student would use their iPad to read, discuss and comment with other students.
