THE FLYNN EFFECT

• INTRODUCTION: The case study is about rising an

intellectual ability among the successive generation.

The Flynn Effect deals with the issue of how the general IQ scores of a population change over time. Below are a graph indicating gene express and environmental variables.

JAMES FLYNN RESEARCH

• James Flynn is a New Zealand Researcher:He first documented the rising scores.

He reported that everyone who took IQ test in 1970s did better than those who took the test in 1940s.

THEORIES OF FLYNN EFFECTResearchers are not sure what causing the Flynneffect. So they proposed some theories:• EDUCATION:

Students are better educatedthen there ancestors.

• SMALLER FAMILIES:Today people have small

families so they give betterattention.

• TEST TAKING SURVEY:Nowadays children are

used to of giving these kinds of tests.• GENES:

Some Geneticresearchers say that if Genesfor intelligence carried by bothparents are dominant,IQ oftheir child will be higher.

• Do you believe people are really getting smarter? Why or why not?

• Which of the factors explaining Flynn Effect? Do you accept this?

• If the Flynn Effect is true, does this under mind the theory that IQ is mostly inherited? Why or why not?
