VET Newsletter

Issue 1 - Feb 2020

Welcome back to 2020, which is an exciting year for Vocational Education and Training (VET) at Champion Bay Senior High School as we have our first group of Year 11 students. Many of these students are participating in VET programs within the school and in the broader community. We look forward to bringing you updates on their progress, successes and showcasing the great work they are doing throughout the year. We would also like to welcome the Year 10 cohort to the senior school space and hope they are excited for the year ahead, as many opportunities will be coming their way.

Careers Central @ Champion Office This is our new VET space and Resource Centre for our students and the broader school community. It is located in the Moresby/Arts building. We welcome students and parents to visit anytime especially if you are seeking information around Careers. Watch this space for more information and opening hours.

USI Numbers

At some point your child will need a USI

number to further their study. This includes

any TAFE or Certificate options from Yr 10

onwards. We would appreciate if ALL parents

could apply for a USI number by going to:

https://beta.usi.gov.au/

More detailed info is also available there.

Please email your USI number to natalie.partingto@education.wa.edu.au

TAFELinks and Pre-apprenticeship students in 2020

We have approximately 30 students who are studying formal qualifications at Central Regional TAFE this year. The qualifications the students are studying range from Automotive to Horse Care to Business Studies. Many of these qualifications also require work placement which will provide the students with valuable enterprise skills making them more employable when they leave school. We will be venturing down to TAFE with camera in hand over the next few weeks to take lots of happy snaps of the students hard at work and will be posting them in future newsletters and on our Facebook page.

Nationally Accredited Qualifications being delivered at CBSHS

A big shout out to Mr Bleach and Miss Edwards as they commence delivering two Nationally Accredited Qualifications to our students, as part of the students regular timetable. Mr Bleach is delivering the Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology and is an experienced VET teacher, having over 20 years of experience in various industry areas. We are very fortunate to have him on board! Miss Edwards is new to the VET space, having worked tirelessly in 2019 to complete (almost) her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. She is, however, a highly qualified Physical Education teacher and will bring a lot of skills and knowledge to the delivery of this qualification. We thank both teachers for their commitment to the delivery of VET within the school and look forward to supporting them in this role.

What are Enterprise Skills?

Enterprise skills are generic skills that are

transferrable across different jobs.

Young people need to learn enterprise skills now to

prepare them for the economy of the future, so they

can become job creators, not just job seekers, and

navigate more complex careers.

VET builds enterprise skills by providing real-life work

experience!!

DO YOU KNOW?

More than 77% of VET graduates are employed after training.

Vocational education and training covers 7/10 fastest growing jobs.

The median full-time income of a VET graduate is $55,000.
