ONE KILLED WHEN

TWO TAXIS COLLIDEONE person was killed and four others injured af-ter a head-on collision be-tween two taxis on Glen Norton Road at around 6.17am on June 29.

The injured were transported to Tembisa Hospital.

According to the district manager media liaison of Emergency Services

Disaster and Emergency Management Services, Mr William Ntladi the driver of one of the taxis was declared dead at the scene. Four people sus-tained serious injuries, including the driver of the other taxi.

"The injured were trans-ported to Tembisa Hos-pital and another hospital

respectively for further medical care. Hydrau-lic rescue tools (Jaws of Life) had to be used to free and recover the trapped driver from be-hind the steering wheel," said Mr Ntladi.

Ekurhuleni Metro-politan Police Department (EMPD) are investigating the cause of accident.

Members of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services attended the accident scene.

The Ekurhuleni North Cluster Tembisa sector fi ve crime combating forum visited the Tembisa Police Station to receive their new patrol jackets for their sector.

The refl ector jackets were handed over on July 1.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha said the mem-bers, together with the sector commander Warrant Offi cer Mathivha, moved around the sector fi ve area which included Isthama, Matikweni Nkuna C and D, Illidinga, Igqagqa, Madelakufa1and 2, Iseke-lo, eMoyeni, Ibazelo and eMkhathini.

"They moved around and talked to their communi-ties. They displayed the jackets they are going to use when on patrol. They also received whistles from the social crime pre-vention's Constable Zungu and Constable Thlako," said Capt Ralidzivha.

"The whistles are to be used when somebody is attacked. They were fur-ther informed about mob justice. They must encour-age their communities not to take the law into their own hands.

"As they have been recently elected, they are to work with their sec-tor commander and also support him in the fi ght against crime," he said.

The sector crime forum chairperson, Mr Mphehu Mohau, was excited and overwhelmed by the recep-tion they received from the community.

"The community thought the community patrollers were no longer patrol-ling. Now we are back and criminals must take heed. We want to reclaim the streets. Our priority is to allow our community to feel free to walk the streets. Together we will make a difference," said Mr Mohau.

An MTN shop at Phuma-lani Mall in Tembisa was robbed of cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha said on July 6 seven people entered the shop and acted as if they were customers.

"While one employee was helping a customer,

six men acted as if they were looking for cellular phones.

"One of them ap-proached the teller and showed her a fi rearm," said Capt Ralidzivha.

"He told the woman that it was a robbery."

The employees and the customer were taken to a room.

One of the suspects took an unknown number of cellphones from the safe.

One employee was forced to open the cash registers and cash was taken. "They locked them in the storeroom. The suspects disappeared amongst the people in the mall," Capt Ralidzivha said.

DREAM Team Studios is creating employment for young people in Tembisa.

While the scourge of ever rising unemployment leads to young people losing hope and giving up altogether, Jim Kagiso Nkoana and a team of young people in Tembisa are set to assist young fi lm graduates to acquire practical experience on a proper fi lm set.

The young people involved in the initiative are all fi lm gradu-ates in their own right.

Their failure to secure sus-tainable employment in the fi lm industry resulted in the fi lm graduates establishing Dream Team Studios.

Dream Team Studios consists of Jim Kagiso Nkoana, Jack Mojapelo, Chresia Mathivha, Lelo Khumalo, Molebogeng Manyaka and Nokuthula Shon-gwe who are hands-on on a daily basis in the running of the studio's business.

“Since I joined Dream Team I have learnt a lot. I didn’t know what was happening on set be-hind the scenes,” said Nokuth-ula Shongwe, a fi rst assistant director and camera operator.

LIGHTS, CAMERA AND EMPLOYMENT

The Dream Team Studios members include Jim Kagiso Nkoana, Jack Mojapelo, Chresia Mathivha, Lelo Khumalo, Molebogeng Manyaka and Nokuthula Shongwe.

During a fi lm production, members share the workload amongst themselves and oper-ate within designations assigned to them.

What keeps these young people determined is a passion for telling stories.

Molebogeng Manyaka, a production manager, said she always knew from a young age that she was going to pursue a career in television and fi lm.

“My love for television started when I was very young, living in Limpopo at a village called Serafa,” said Manyaka.

She said the only place that had a television set was a local café, where neighbours would gather to watch entertaining stories.

“Unlike most children who wanted to be on television, I was more interested in being part of the crew who made it possible for people to appear on the screen. I never imag-ined myself on the screen but I wanted to be behind the scenes,” said Manyaka.

Ekurhuleni’s IEC is ready for the upcoming pollsIt’s all systems go for the upcoming local government elections in Ekurhuleni.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe said over 20 representatives of political parties and inde-pendent candidates con-verged in Germiston to sign the electoral code of con-duct as a pledge to commit to a free and fair election.

"The code of conduct calls on parties to practise political tolerance towards each other during the campaigning period until the elections day," said Mr Gadebe.

Ekurhuleni’s Municipal Electoral Offi cer Dr Imogen Mashazi tabled the electoral code of conduct and stated

that Ekurhuleni’s Indepen-dent Electoral Commission (IEC) was ready to preside over free and fair elections on August 3.

“There are over one mil-lion registered voters on the ground. This is enough for all political parties to get their share of votes. There is therefore no need for violence but parties must vigorously engage in peaceful campaigning,” said Dr Mashazi. In terms of safety at polling stations, Dr Mashazi said the IEC will ensure a visible police presence at all 626 voting stations. "Power generators are also on standby in case of power supply interrup-tions," she said.

Mr Petrus Mhlari, deputy secretary of the African National Congress in the Ekurhuleni region, signing the code of conduct pledge committing to a free and fair election process.

editing.“My vision for Dream Team

Studios is that we become an international production com-pany and create employment for

young people from townships like Tembisa,” said Mathivha.

Lelo Khumalo, a Dream Team Studios producer, said it is important for Dream Team

Studios to be a success because the members are not only fi lm-makers.

“We are actually young South Africans who are unemployed and we just decided that enough is enough - we are going to take it upon ourselves and we are going to employ ourselves and now we are creating these jobs ourselves,” said Khumalo.

She said her vision is to see Dream Team Studios becoming bigger.

“We have come together as a collective to use our training and skills to uplift our commu-nity,” said director Jim Kagiso Nkoana.

“We hope to grow fi lm in Tembisa and be celebrated for being the pioneers of fi lm who came out of Tembisa. We are very proud.”

Nkoana said they implore the community to be sup-portive of their endeavours so that they can reach out to the world with confi dence.

A few weeks ago Dream Team Studios screened some of their work at the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre for the community to indulge in.

THIRTY Tembisa learn-ers graduated from Early Childhood Development training (ECD) on July 9.

ECD training provider, Mr Themba Maseko, said the course is offered free of charge and is aimed at poverty alleviation.

The graduates under-went the training from June 11 to July 2.

He said the course runs through four class facilita-tions held each Saturday.

Mr Maseko said the Early Childhood Devel-opment Centre has been running the classes since

2014 and has produced 480 graduates.

“A majority of these learners open their own crèches which are regis-tered as non-profi t or-ganisations (NPO) with the department of social development,” said Mr Maseko.

He said there are no criteria for admission of learners, no age limit and no experience needed.

Mr Maseko holds a BA degree, an honours in edu-cational management and a teacher’s diploma.

He is currently a head

of department (HOD) at Charlotte Maxeke Sec-ondary School.

Mr Maseko boasts 16 years’ teaching experi-ence and he is registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).

“The programme is not sponsored, I do it from my own pocket,” he said.

The next intake of the free ECD training begins on August 6 and registra-tion is now open.

Interested people can call Mr Maseko on 063 575 5801.

YOUTH URGED TO

STAY FOCUSEDHundreds of school pupils and youth in Ivory Park packed the Ivory Park North Hall next to the Ivory Park SAPS in a career expo.

Kuzondlula Motivational Tour hosted a career expo under the theme, “Now I Know Exactly What I Will be Studying For”.

The seminar was held on June 18.

The expo was attended by the Deputy Speaker of National Parliament Lechesa Tsenoli, MEC of Social Development Nandi Mayethula-Khoza, For-mer Gauteng Chairperson of CPFs Andy Mashaile, Chairperson of Education at the Gauteng Legislature Joe Mpisi and local ward councillors.

Several colleges and universities attended to the expo.

According to the founder of Kuzondlula Motiva-tional Tour, Mr Vuyolethu Sibiya, the aim of the career expo was to give the youth and school pupils a

platform to interact with various career and fi nancial aid experts.

“We are hoping all the attendees have acquired vital information needed in their future careers. We be-lieve in building educated, hard-working individuals who will make the coun-try a better place for all. So many students fail to

further their education because they lack informa-tion on how to apply for fi nancial aids. By bringing these institutions closer to them, we are hoping they receive all the necessary information and forms to apply,” said Mr Sibiya.

The Deputy Speaker of National Parliament Lechesa Tsenoli encour-aged young people to stay focused and be aware of the people they associate with.

“I am advising matricu-lants to stop engaging in social media, alcohol and substance abuse. Rather concentrate on revising your schoolwork so that you obtain better marks by the end of the year.”

Meanwhile MEC of Social Development Nandi Mayethula-Khoza ap-pealed to the government to help matriculants with bursaries, learnerships and internships.

She encouraged the youth to follow their dreams and missions.

HARAMBEE IN

THE SPOTLIGHTA major part of the desired Aerotropolis that the City of Ekurhuleni is trying to create, is to have an effi cient and reli-able public transport system.

The City of Ekurhuleni hosted journalists on June 21 during a tour of the city to showcase the developments that are currently taking place.

One of these developments is the construction of the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRT), better known as Ha-rambee.

“The construction of Ha-rambee started last year and is currently in phase one of construction,” said Mr Ivan du Plessis, Ekurhuleni’s senior protocol offi cer.

The project is looking to create a reliable system that will allow residents to travel through the City of Ekurhu-leni, connecting the nine towns which make up the area with an estimated 40 to 60 buses expected to be running at the completion of the project.

Harambee is looking for a similar impact to that of the

Rea Vaya system in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) as the con-struction will include upgrades on all the roads, pavements and intersections along the desired bus routes as well as the construction of designated bus lanes.

The aim of the project is to integrate all existing modes of transport as it is one of the key aspects of the transforming the City of Ekurhuleni into an Aerotropolis.

The buses will be easily accessible and affordable to residents and will have Wi-Fi installed on board to add to the travel experience.

The buses will play a major role in transporting employees to their various places of work as industrial developments con-tinue to be developed in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Ekurhuleni is hopeful of hav-ing phase one completed and operational by January 2017 and hopes to have the entire project completed and fully operational by the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018.

Ekurhuleni showcases industrial developmentsThe City of Ekurhuleni is showcasing all of its recent industrial developments taking place as part of the development of Ekurhuleni into an Aerotropolis.

During the June 21 me-dia tour, one of the indus-trial parks visited was Lords View.

Located near Chloorkop, the area has a strategic posi-tion as it is not only near Johannesburg but also major highways and OR Tambo International Airport.

The industrial park is com-prised of eight phases and is 1,3 million square metres in size, making it unlike any other industrial township.

“Lords View is currently in phase one and has 12 busi-nesses already in operation,” said Mr Ivan du Plessis, senior protocol offi cer for the City of Ekurhuleni.

These businesses include Ola ice cream, @Home, Fos-chini, Stuttafords and vari-ous logistics companies.

This industrial park plays a major role in job creation in the area.

Each company in the park will supply the community

with numerous job op-portunities not only in the construction of the business, but also long-term opportu-nities of working within the businesses, thus it plays a major role in Ekurhuleni’s township development pro-gramme.

One of the main talking points about Lords View is that it is the greenest indus-trial park in South Africa.

Developers are currently in discussions with the city to implement green electricity,

which is electricity produced from waste materials.

The industrial park is be-ing developed on old min-ing land. These projects are important in turning previ-ously unused land into part of the Aerotropolis, ex-plained Mr Du Plessis while on the tour.

Lords View is just one of the many industrial parks that are beginning to form part of the ever growing Aerotropolis around the City of Ekurhuleni.

WHILE some men of his age are turning to crime, Sammy ‘Dollar’ Sehoana (33) is making his mark in the online advertising industry.

Mr Sehoana, an entre-preneur and motivational speaker, runs his business called 82Ads.com.

This father of two children, a boy and a girl, is self-employed and an author as well.

In March this year he re-leased a motivational book titled 'Dialogues between dream-makers' which will be launched offi cially in September.

Mr Sehoana, who matriculated at Jiyane Secondary School, said he did not obtain a tertiary education due to fi nancial constraints.

After matric, he thought to himself that sitting at home, whining about the lack of employment, would only make him a miserable person.

Therefore, because of the passion for his township, he decided to voluntarily motivate the youth. At the same time he operated his small car wash business.

He then joined a tele-communications company where he worked as a cus-tomer service consultant.

“I always wanted to be self employed. Since my school days I knew was an entrepreneur. With very

little resources and lack of knowledge, I ventured into business,” he said.

Mr Sehoana said he later left the telecommunica-tions company after he felt he had reached his limit and needed to do some-thing for himself.

“I then ventured into events management. I remember my inaugural host was at Imbizo where Ms Rita Zwane sponsored me with a free venue and food. The seminar was about the business of do-ing business.

“I realised that people like Ms Zwane have a heart for people and she would love to see other young entrepreneurs grow-ing and becoming success-ful,” said Mr Sehoana.

Mr Sehoana said his events management busi-ness fell apart and lost investors but he never lost hope.

“I had to take a differ-ent route and looked for a job so that I could pay my debts and start business afresh,” he recalled.

Mr Sehoana is orgin-ally from Ga-Rankuwa in Limpopo, however, he was raised in Ivory Park. He said a business is not started by fi nance but ac-tion.

“Most people spend their time worrying about what they don't have in-stead of focusing on what they do have.

“I believe that the things we have around us are the resources we could use in order to start putting our thoughts into action,” he said.

Mr Sehoana advises young entrepreneurs to think globally.

“Don't just have an idea and launch it. Do research fi rst for the idea to be profi table.

“I am hoping to launch my new online advertising company in Lesotho be-fore the end of this year,” he said.

Mr Sehoana said he wants to go around mo-tivating people and help them to realise and under-stand their potential.

His motto is, “Nothing is impossible.”

POSITIVE THINKING

Local entrepreneur Mr Sammy ‘Dollar’ Sehoana is aiming high with his new online advertising business.

TEMBISA HOSTS BOXING COMPETITIONMOHLWADIBONA Boxing Club hosted a boxing tournament on the weekend.

Twelve boxing clubs from Mayibuye, Cosmo-City, Hillbrow, Ivory Park and Soweto fl ocked to Rabie Ridge community hall on July 9.

Young people turned out to showcase their boxing skills in front of supportive fans.

Mohlwadibona Boxing Club’s manager and event organiser Ms Rose Makgeta said the aim of the tournament was to spark interest in boxing among Tembisa youngsters.

“I want young people to know that Mohlwadibona Boxing Club has training sessions in Mayibuye.

“They must move away from the streets and partici-pate in sport,” said Ms Makgeta.

She said the sport is still struggling locally and they implore sponsors to come on board by donating equipment to help move children away from substance abuse.

“At the moment I do everything from my own pocket.

I love the sport, I was a boxer myself but I was not privileged to go professional,” said Ms Makgeta.

“More than 12 of my boxers won today. We only had one loss from our new female boxer,” she said.

She said they are encouraging girls to join the sport because it is not meant for men only.

“I want to thank parents, participants and all the fans for supporting the tournament. I also want to thank Rabie Ridge sports of-fi ce for giving us chairs and providing the venue. Thanks to Johannesburg Boxing Association especially Mr Jeff Ngwenya for overseeing the organising process and making the tournament pos-sible,” said Ms Makgeta.
