Quote for the fortnight “Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others.
Unsuccessful people are always asking, “What’s in it for me?”
-Brian Tracy
Congratulations to Jamie Moir who was accepted in to the
Specialist Cricket Program at Belridge Secondary College for
2021.
Congratulations to Albie Reeve of Year 4, currently 5th in the
State Motocross Championship. Albie started riding in his
first year in Australia, when he was only 4 years old. He is
currently a member of the Wanneroo Junior Motocross Club
and participates in races all over the Western Australia
region. You are a superstar, Albie!
We love the chance to celebrate the success of our students.
If your child has had a success outside of school please let us
know and maybe send a photo so we can share in our
newsletter.
BYOD Open Day - Monday, 2 November 2020 In order to maximise student access to technology for learning, Poseidon Primary School is implementing
“Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) in 2021 for PP to Year 4 students. Our steering committee members have
been working together to set up the policy and guidelines.
We would like to invite you to our Open Day next term, Monday, 2 November at 9:00am in the library. You
will be able to obtain information about the program, and Winthrop will be at school to assist parents with
information about devices, costing and 6-month interest free options. You will also be taken on a tour to
our classrooms during the morning session to see our children using devices in the classroom to enhance
learning.
Our schedule of implantation will be explained and given to all parents and set in place for Term 1, 2021 for
all parents PP to Year 4 during next year.
If your child is not within the focus year groups and you can assist us
by opting into the program, we would appreciate it as well as it would
then be giving your child the opportunity and capability to make the
most of the digital technologies available to them which lead to new
ways of doing things as technologies evolve and limiting risks to
themselves and others in a digital environment.
Good Standing Policy and Process In early 2019, a directive was published by the Minister of Education on school violence, “Let’s Take a Stand
Together”. This required public schools to take action with students who fight, photograph or video any
violent actions and/or share them with any media or social media platforms. All public schools are also
required to suspend/exclude students who fight or make intentional physical contact with other students or
staff or disrupt the good order that is expected in public schools.
The development of a Good Standing Policy is a mandatory requirement for all public schools in response to
the increasing incidents of violence in schools. This policy adheres to the Department of Education (WA)
2019 directive issued under section 232 of the School Education Act 1999 by the Director General.
In response to this our Good Standing process has been developed and has been attached to our Wellbeing
and Engagement Plan at Poseidon.
At Poseidon Primary School we believe learning is enhanced in a welcoming, inclusive, safe and caring
environment. Good standing emphasises the importance of taking responsibility for negative choices
students may make and which may ultimately have an effect on their safety and/or learning and the safety
and/or learning of others. Good Standing supports and works in conjunction with the Poseidon Primary
School Wellbeing and Engagement Plan.
Interschool Cross Country The top 8 placings at the recent Faction Cross Country Carnival were
invited to represent Poseidon Primary at the Interschool Cross Country
Championships held at Beldon Primary School this Thursday, 20 August.
We wish all the participants the best of luck.
The event starts at 9:30am and finishes with presentations at
approximately 11:45am. Family and friends are more than welcome to
come along and cheer for Poseidon Primary.
School Photo Day New order envelopes are coming from Kapture and will be distributed to
students once we receive from Kapture. If you have old Kapture envelopes
from when they were first sent at the beginning of the year, please dispose
of them.
Please make sure students come to school wearing full school uniform on
school photo day. All students PP to Year 6 should be wearing a school polo, not a faction or graduation
polo.
Year 6 graduating students will need to bring their graduation polo and their school hat to school with them
to change into at lunch time as the graduation photoshoot will happen in the afternoon.
The Faction Captains and Vice Captains will have a group shot taken just prior to the graduation photoshoot.
Please ensure Captains and Vice Captains bring their faction polo to change into at lunch time.
Sibling photos can be booked online and more details will come once we receive the Kapture envelopes with
instructions on how to book. Recess (10:40am – 11:00am) and lunch (1:00pm – 1:40pm) have been
scheduled for sibling photos.
School Photo Dates: Wednesday, 9 September - Kindy Red to Year 6 students, includes sibling photos, graduation and leadership
groups (Counsillors and Faction Captains/Vice Captains).
Monday, 14 September - Kindy Blue students only.
