He called on our students to consider the issues raised by the tragedy, highlighting particularly the inequality that persists in our society and which appears to have contributed so significantly to the failure of the state to look after the poorest and the most vulnerable in this case. I was very proud of the way in which our community came together last Friday and raised over £1,200 for victims of the terrorist attacks and of the Grenfell tragedy. Izzy Kinder, one of our Head Girls, gave a compelling speech to the gathering where she spoke of the importance of compassion, kindness and tolerance and that ultimately it is love which will defy those who seek to spread hate and fear. It has been another very busy week of enrichment activities and opportunities to celebrate the work of our students. Mrs Keaveney has led both a Student Voice workshop with The Beacon School and today has organised activities to mark Women in Engineering Day. We are thrilled to welcome a number of women from industry to work with and to inspire our students, The GCSE Art Exhibition was very special indeed, with a huge range of styles, media and creative ideas on show – congratulations to all of the students and to the Art Department who have inspired such brilliant work. Finally, one of the highlights of the year is our Year 11 Leavers’ Day and our annual assembly was full of fantastic memories of the significant contribution that these students have made to our school. As I write, students are heading home to get ready for the Prom, which promises to be a lovely event at Sandown Park. I am very grateful to Mrs South and Miss Devonish who have worked so hard with Year 11 this year, and to Mrs Pingree for all her work in organising the Prom. Whitehorse Drive We have had a number of complaints from residents on Whitehorse Drive about parents blocking driveways and driving dangerously as they drop or collect their daughters. Once again I am appealing to you to not use Whitehorse Drive before or at the end of the school day, but to meet your daughter elsewhere. It is very likely that there will be an accident such is the volume of traffic in the road outside the school. Open Evening – early closure Thursday 6 July A reminder that the school closes at 1.10pm on Thursday 6 July so that we can prepare for Open Evening and will reopen for students at 9.30am on Friday 7 July in recognition of the fact that so many students will be with us until late supporting this very important event for the school. Finally, it has been a very hot week. The girls have once again behaved superbly in very trying conditions. Enjoy a slightly cooler weekend. Ros Allen@RoseberyHT

NEW #RoseberyProud Poster Campaign Mrs St John and Mrs Tyler have introduced a poster campaign designed to motivate and inspire our students, bringing important messages of well-being closer to them. The first theme of the campaign is: 'Raising Self Esteem'. Year 7 students have come up with the slogans and have volunteered to be photographed for the posters. Look out for the posters online and around the school.

Year 10 lead the way with their practical for new GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition mock exam

Year 10 Food & Nutrition students (on the hottest day of the year!) have worked with enthusiasm and dedication to complete a two and a half hour practical assessment. The theme for students was to investigate a named Mediterranean Country and to cook a selection of dishes showing skill and knowledge of the cuisine. We had a very wide range of well-presented dishes using ingredients and flavours of the countries studied. Students made their own pasta, flat breads, sauces and desserts which were all beautifully executed. Due to their excellent organisational skills and positive attitude, all the candidates were successful with some outstanding results. Today’s trial was in preparation for next year’s GCSE: a three hour final practical, with three high skill "show-stopper" dishes to create.

We are very proud of our students and are grateful to parents for their support with ingredients and to our Technicians, Mrs Coombes and Mrs Brockett, together with Mrs Roberts’ support in our rooms throughout the day.

Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly - Thursday 22 June 2017 Today we said goodbye to our Year 11 students. We celebrated with a wonderful assembly led by Mrs South and Ms Devonish, which included many students rewarded and praised for their attendance, punctuality, achievements and participation in extracurricular activities. The speeches from Ms Allen and Mr Celine were inspirational and very moving in equal measure and we certainly hope that their words of wisdom resonate with our incredible students for many years to come.

The assembly finished with a 'trip down memory lane' photographic slideshow to music, there was hardly a dry eye in the house and that was just the teachers! We wish all our Year 11 students and their families, who are now leaving our community, all the very best for the years to come, and to those of you returning in Sixth Form, we very much look forward to welcoming you back in September as the young adults you have become.

Due to popular demand, the Memory Lane Year 11 Leavers video (DVD) will be available for a donation of £1.00 payable on ParentPay until Friday 7 July. The video will be available to collect on RESULTS DAY (we cannot accept cash on the day). Good Luck to you all, Rosebery School
