Capital PunishmentAbolishing the Death Penalty the Death Penalty

There are too many mistakes…

Unequal Treatment

According to The Innocence Project, about

70 percent of those exonerated by DNA have

been people of color

The Death Penalty is not a deterrent from

crime

Data from the FBI indicates that the

fourteen states without Capital Punishment in

2008 had homicide rates at or below the national

rate (Amn)

The Death Penalty Costs Taxpayers More…

The California Death Penalty costs the state $137million per year compared to $11.5 million for a system without the death penalty (Amn)

There is something we can do

• Become familiar with local/national laws and policies

• Connect with local Outreach Organizations (Innocence Project, The Equal Justice Initiative)

• Spread awareness to others

Or we can choose to do nothing…

Equal Justice

According to U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, “ we simply can not offer equal justice to all Americans when racial disparities plague the system by which our society imposes the ultimate punishment”(Deb 27).
