“Puppets”

How I made “Puppets”…

“Puppets” is a fantasy novel published in 2012, telling the story of a marionette that resembles a 6-years old child… To design the cover picture of the book I met several times with the author and concentrated on those parts of the manuscript describing the protagonist, secondary characters and particularly significant locations… I started with graphite sketches, which I showed to and discussed with the author repeatedly, then adding coloured pastels, to visualize the different ideas I had in mind… After the final design was chosen and hand-coloured close to a final stage, I started with the digital drawing and colouring with Photoshop: here I used photographs and models to study the lighting and reflections of the scene. I also imported some photographic elements into the final scene (mirror frame and miniature portrait in the background)
