DECA’s CHALLENGES provide DECA members opportunities to
demonstrate the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom
through innovative challenges in partnership with several corporate
partners. Each challenge has a unique focus and a specific set of
required tasks.
■ deca.org/challenges
CHALLENGESINTUIT INNOVATION CHALLENGE A premier DECA event during
Global Entrepreneurship Week,
the Intuit Innovation Challenge
is a hands-on design thinking
project, daring students
around the globe to innovate
for impact to help reverse
the effect of global warming.
Through the challenge, teams
will apply Intuit’s design
thinking methodology, Design
for Delight, to develop an
innovative sustainability
solution. Teams will
demonstrate their use of
the design thinking process
through a three-minute video
presentation that brings to life
their process and outcomes.
The presentations should
include their experiences with
empathy, brainstorming and
coming up with the solution, as
well as experimentation within
their community.FIDM ENTREPRENEUR OF TOMORROW CHALLENGE
Demonstrate your entrepreneurial spirit by proposing a new product idea for
a specific market segment. Pitch your new clothing, beauty, home, health,
food or entertainment concept in a four-minute YouTube presentation
that describes your target market, product offering and benefits, market
potential and marketing and distribution strategy. Winners will be eligible for
a travel stipend to attend the International Career Development Conference
(ICDC) with approval from the chartered association advisor.
KNOWLEDGE MATTERS DIGITAL PRESENTATION SKILLS
CHALLENGE
Demonstrate your digital presentation skills utilizing a Virtual Business
simulation in a one- to two-minute digital presentation. The topic is up
to you. You can talk solely about the strategies you use in the simulation.
You could discuss real-world business stories and illustrate the stories with
sim exercises. Or, you could talk about your own life, your knowledge of
business and financial literacy and again utilize a Virtual Business simulation
to relate to and illustrate your topic. Each presentation needs to include
video footage of the member presenting/talking about the topic, but the
tools that you utilize to create your digital presentation are up to you. Use
still images and screenshots of the Virtual Business sims or video captures
of the simulations in action. The top eight finalists will deliver a live five- to
ten-minute digital presentation via Google Hangouts or Zoom. The top three
winners will be awarded cash prizes and highlighted on stage at ICDC 2021
with approval from the chartered association advisor. Open to any DECA
chapter that has at least one active license to a Knowledge Matters Virtual
Business simulation.

ANTHONY FAKHOURYCOLLEGIATE DECA
PRESIDENT @cdeca_anthony
Successful entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk was once asked what to do
when you have an idea you feel passionate about. He said, “If you feel
good, then take on the responsibility of sharing it. The world needs
more of it.”
Hello, entrepreneurs, dreamers and DECA members. When getting
ready for work or school, are you happy? When waking up bright and
early to start your day, do you feel fulfilled? If you answered “Yes,”
then odds are you’re on a good path. According to a Gallup poll, it is a
path that only 29% of Americans are on.
71% of Americans say they are dissatisfied with their current
occupation.
70% of all Americans also say they want to be self-employed.
Well, what’s the holdup? Why are so many people staying in their
comfort zones? For many, every paycheck is critical; every paycheck
has a purpose, and going a few weeks or months without one can
hurt. However, ask yourself this: Would you rather be stable right now
or be living your best life 10 years from now? If you dedicate as much
time to something you are passionate about as you do to a job you
dislike, then you will notice that sometimes sacrifices are necessary to
conquer your biggest dreams.
There is no better time to start a business than right now. With the
marketing industry booming, it has become easier than ever to start
a business and attract customers. Organizations like DECA are truly
amazing in times like these because through DECA, we have been able
to build our confidence, boost our morale and expand our network.
600,000 businesses are started each year. Will you be a part of that?
The time to face your fears and become an entrepreneur is now.
Participating in DECA’s entrepreneurship competitive events can
help you think outside the box and take a step towards becoming a
self-made entrepreneur. These events challenge you to be creative
and give you a real-world look into the scenarios that entrepreneurs
face every day. If you already have an idea that you want feedback on,
explore the Entrepreneurship-Starting a Business event. You never
know what feedback you might get to help implement your idea.
So, take action and get to work! Use the resources provided by DECA,
be confident and always remember to stay positive.
