ROBOTICS TEAM–The Levelland Middle School GEAR (Get Excited About Robotics) Team competedat Texas Tech University, with 30 other middle school from across West Texas, on April 23rd. This year’stheme was Dr. Roboto, and the competition board was designed for students to pretend their robot wasmicroscopic and working inside the body as the patient is rushed to the Emergency Room. During thecompetition, students have two minutes to complete various tasks with their robot, such as: removingplaque, delivering antibiotics to infected areas, removing blood clots, repairing punctured lungs, andmore. Covenant Hospital Levelland supported the students by donating the GEAR t-shirts this year.Tobias Sanchez was the highest scoring Levelland Middle School student, placing 18th out of 120competing teams. HELPING A NEIGHBOR--Volunteers with Basic Energy hosted a hamburger and hot dog fund-raisingcookout Saturday to benefit Jason Cook, the off-duty paramedic who was hit by a vehicle while trying tohelp those injured in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 114 last month. Cook suffered ankle, pelvis,shoulder and head injuries, has undergone surgeries to repair the broken bones, and will be off work forseveral more weeks. Cook, shown on crutches on the left, thanked Basic and everyone in Levelland whohave rallied to support him and his family. One of Basic Energy volunteers said that Basic employeescouldn’t imagine what it would be like to be off work and having just one income in this day and age. Basicemployees also felt it was time for the community to get back to helping each other. Posing with Cook infront of one of the cookers in front of the local Basic Energy office were Jose Valenciano, Luis Moreno,Dana Duhon, Melissa Lee, Jamie Olivo, Julian Olivo and Susan Olivo. Literature on Saturday, May 4,2013. Mandy is a 2010 graduate ofTrinity Christian School andcompleted her degree in threeyears.

While at LCU Mandy servedas President of Sigma Tau Delta,the English Honor Society, andwas an active member of ZetaGamma.

She has accepted a full-timeposition as the Distance LearningUser Support for LCU. She willpursue a M.A. in English fromTexas Tech University in the fall.

She is the daughter of Stanand Jill Roberts and thegranddaughter of Jay and BarbaraEudy and the late Ott and KayRoberts, all of Levelland.
