(Staff Photo) HELPING A NEIGHBOR--Volunteers with Basic Energy hosted a hamburger and hot dog fund-raising cookout Saturday to benefit Jason Cook, the off-duty paramedic who was hit by a vehicle while trying to help those injured in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 114 last month. Cook suffered ankle, pelvis, shoulder and head injuries, has undergone surgeries to repair the broken bones, and will be off work for several more weeks. Cook, shown on crutches on the left, thanked Basic and everyone in Levelland who have rallied to support him and his family. One of Basic Energy volunteers said that Basic employees couldn’t imagine what it would be like to be off work and having just one income in this day and age. Basic employees also felt it was time for the community to get back to helping each other. Posing with Cook in front of one of the cookers in front of the local Basic Energy office were Jose Valenciano, Luis Moreno, Dana Duhon, Melissa Lee, Jamie Olivo, Julian Olivo and Susan Olivo. The Cook family went on record thanking Basic Energy, its employees and the Levelland community for the money, support and prayers which have been offered on Jason’s behalf.
