JULY Mendelssohn on Mull Festival Mull July 1-6 As a young man, the composer Felix Mendelssohn made a life changing journey through Scotland to Mull where he found inspiration to write one of his most famous pieces – The Hebrides Overture, Fingal’s Cave. Each year the Mendelssohn on Mull festival, under the artistic directorship of Levon Chilingirian in-vites a small group of young musi-cians at the start of their profes-sional careers to take part in an ex-traordinary week of discovery and performance. They are mentored by highly experienced players of chamber music, and perform to au-diences in such diverse venues as the tiny Creich Church, which seats about 50 people, and the imposing grandeur of Duart Castle’s Great Hall. This year - The Mendelssohn on Mull Festival is celebrating 25 years of incredible music making. www.mendelssohnonmull.com The East Neuk Festival Fife July 3-7 The award-winning and critically-acclaimed East Neuk Festival pre-sents world-class arts events in the East Neuk of Fife.
