OVERVIEWZIP Innovations creates and implements product development strategies for start-ups, social enterprises and established companies during the formative stages of a new venture.

ZIP works with entrepreneurs and corporate teams to perform the due diligence required to position and prepare for preliminary discussions with investors and stake holders. A critical aspect of this work is to define the scale and scope of the product development effort to determine appropriate funding and resource requirements as well as key development milestones. ZIP also creates proof-of-concept prototypes, visualizes user scenarios, and benchmarks concepts with a range of similar or competitive products.

Once the venture has been funded, ZIP refines the product development strategy, striking the appropriate balance between budget, schedule and development risk. ZIP then structures the development program to ensure an expedient project start and an efficient process.

PRINCIPALLawrence Shubert is an entrepreneur and a former principal of IDEO, the world's leading design and innovation company. He has over 20 years of innovation and product development experience as a designer, leader and executive in wide range of consumer and commercial markets.

Shubert recently founded ZIP Innovations in partnership with IDEO to commercialize a line of safe and easy to use personal care products he invented. He continues to consult and provides strategic innovation and product development services to a select group of companies and non-profit organizations.

His client base has included numerous industry leaders such as Medtronic, Kodak, Samsung, Supercuts, Pepsi, Apple Computer, Snap-on, Kenworth and BMW, as well as a number of start-ups in the medical, dental services, telecommunications, computer, energy conservation, toy, social networking and food industries.

Shubert has worked on an array of award winning design projects ranging from small hand-held and wearable devices to large industrial equipment. Strategic projects include explorations into digital imaging, office furniture and environments, automobiles and lifestyles, hair cutting services and tools, internet services, food equipment and long haul trucking.

Shubert is a prolific inventor and holds several patents. He taught design methodology at Stanford University and currently leads innovation workshops for companies and organizations.
