Year 3 Home Learning Week beginning 22nd February
Hello Year 3, I hope you have all had a lovely half term last week and you are feeling refreshed! Our class Zoom meeting this week will be on Thursday 25th February at 1.30pm. I will send out the Zoom links to you all on Tuesday. Please work through the tasks below using the resources in the packs or on Seesaw, you can also access the links and extra learning activities on Seesaw. If you decide to do the paper copy of the work then it is essential that you take a photo and send it to me on Seesaw. Take care and keep smiling,

W5 Reading English Maths Topic Mon Read the
guided reading text in your pack for Week 1 (Castle Facts or Types of Rocks). Underline new/unfamiliar vocabulary and use a dictionary or word hippo to find out what they mean.
Complete spelling task 1 in your pack. L.O. To read 2 chapters
of Fantastic Mr Fox and
discuss the characters.
Read chapter 1 and
chapter 2 of Fantastic Mr

(hint – look for doing words with –ed endings). Practise changing them into the present perfect form by adding has or have. Complete the present perfect forms activities. Start with activity one, challenge yourself to see if you can do all three! (find these in your pack or on Seesaw).

Look at the story curve for Fantastic Mr Fox. Use these prompts to support your story writing of a story similar to Fantastic Mr Fox based on an animal family and their enemies.

Don’t forget to answer the comprehension questions when you see a ’bug’ on the page.
used and create a set of sequenced instructions. Read through yesterday’s learning reminders for prepositions. Look at the two pages of Cabbage Cards. Together they make up a set of instructions for making cabbage dye but the main sentences and prepositions have become separated and muddled. Cut out the cards and match the main sentences with the correct prepositional phrases. Order the instructions correctly and stick them on a piece of paper.

Reading Review Choose your favourite text from the week and write a review about it. What did you like? What did you dislike? How many stars (out of 5) does the text get?
Character profile Draw a character from the text and write about their appearance and their personality. Use your inference skills- what do you know about them through their actions and words?
Short summary Can you summarise the text in 100 words or less?
Make a setting Think about the setting of the text and see if you can create it. Use junk modelling, playdough, lego or paper.
Make a prediction What will happen next? Write your prediction.
Interview questions Write 5 questions you would like to ask a character from the story.
Design a front cover What do you think the front cover of the book should look like? Draw an eye catching title and design.
Write a diary Imagine you are a character in the text and write about what happened from your point of view.
Language spotter Choose some of the great words from the text and write a sentence of your own using them.
Create a character Choose a character and get crafty. Can you make the character from junk modelling, playdough, lego or paper.

1. A group of plants called Indigofera were used across Asia.
2. The blue dye has to be extracted from the plant leaves.
3. The leaves must be picked in the first year.
4. Due to their similar results, it is not always easy to say whether indigo or woad
were used.
5. You need to reduce the wood and soak it, for the right colour.
6. Imperial Purple was an immensely valuable dye in the ancient world.

8. The colour gets deeper and more colourful after a long time.

you use each type (time, place, cause) at least once?
