JOY TO THE WORLD - A STUDY OF PHILIPPIANS
“Joy to the World” we sing at Christmas! Then in January so
many go pack & back. They pack the decorations in the attic and
go back to the sorrow, fear and stagnation of mundane life. The
world is troubled and troubling; but the joy of Christmas can live
on because Christ is the gift that keeps on giving. Don’t pack
away your joy along with your Christmas decorations. Our study
of Paul’s letter to the Philippians is about the joy of being a
Christian even in the midst of a very enraged world. A form of the
word “joy” is expressed 16 times in these 4 chapters by Paul. For
the next 10 weeks beginning in January, let the Holy Spirit saturate
you with a special joy that you may be empowered to engage an
enraged world head on while enjoying being a child of the Lord.

LIFE LIGHT BIBLE STUDY – The Book of Job beginning Jan. 11, 2016
Why do the just suffer? Where is God in the midst of loss, illness,

every person, and all too often demand ready answers in our
uniquely human, and sometimes painful, experience. Job’s true

Redeemer.

SON-RISERS BIBLE STUDY – Large Catechism -
In 1517 Martin Luther posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door
of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. By 1528 the Evangelical
churches in Saxony and other parts of Germany had achieved some
sort of external stability. But because of lazy and uneducated
clergy and careless and uniformed people, the conditions of the
congregations were pitiful. After a visit to the congregations in the
fall of 1528, during which the spiritual ignorance and need of the
churches became painfully clear, Luther determined to correct this
situation by the preparation of two catechisms, the Large
Catechism and the Small Catechism.
Although both catechisms were published in 1529, they are not
identical, nor is the Small Catechism a condensation of the Large
Catechism. The Small Catechism was designed for individual use
by pastors and laypersons alike or for use in homes for the
instruction of children, while the Large Catechism was intended to
assist pastors in their task of teaching the chief parts of Christian
doctrine. For that reason the Large Catechism is longer, more
theological, and more polemical.
6
In this study we will look at the catechisms, primarily the Large
Catechism, to equip ourselves with the truth of God’s Word. This
will be an excellent review of your catechism instruction, but will
go beyond. Contemporary applications will be made also.

FAMILY MINISTRY - “LAUGH YOUR WAY TO A BETTER
MARRIAGE” WEEKEND
Why a “laughter” approach? For one simple reason: to overcome
the male objection to a seminar. Let’s be honest, a marriage
seminar isn’t the first thing a guy thinks of when he thinks of “a
fun way to spend the weekend.” We get that…Familiar with the
fact that women are usually much more open to discussing marital
problems than their spouses, Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage
is designed with an element of humor that appeals to couples, but
is especially well-received by men.
Please register no later than Feb. 1. Cost of class is $20/per
couple, which covers course workbook and refreshments.
Childcare will be provided with a free-will donation supporting the
Junior High and Senior High Youth.
