Introduction
Internet Explorer uses security zones in order to classify internet / intranet traffic and then apply rules to sites
that fall within that zone. Sites that are visited often or require special settings should be added to a zone where
the settings can be altered without creating risk if users are accessing other, external sites.
With Windows Internet Explorer 7 (and higher) combined with the User Account Controls in Windows Vista
and later operating systems, Microsoft introduced Protected Mode. Protected Mode helps protect users from
attack by running the Internet Explorer process with greatly restricted privileges. Protected Mode is supposed to
reduce the ability of an attack to write, alter, or destroy data on the user's machine or to install malicious code.
This setting can be set based on each of the security zones and by default it is enabled for the Internet, Local
Intranet, and Restricted Sites zones.
With Workforce ESP v6.x applications there are some settings that are required in order for ESP, ESP-Self
Service and WTKi to display and function properly. Here is a summary of the settings that should be applied to
each user’s Internet Explorer browser session:
1. Put the URL for Workforce application server into the Local Intranet or Trusted Sites security zone.
2. Set the security level for the zone to medium or medium-low.
3. Ensure "Enable Protected Mode" is not checked (Windows Vista or higher).
4. Under the Privacy tab set cookie setting to medium high (or lower).
5. Uncheck the box beside "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" or add the Workforce application URL to the list of
exceptions to allow pop-ups.
The following configurations will need to be done on each of the computers, for each user, that will be
accessing Workforce ESP, Workforce ESP-Self Service or WTKi applications. This includes any Citrix servers
that are deploying these applications.

Tool Tips, Pop-Up and Access Violations: TabProcGrowth
Internet Explorer 8 or higher versions. For various work spaces in ESP v6, when the user hovers over an item, the user does not see the tool tips pop-
up. To resolve this issue a registry key will need to be created and deployed to the workstation for each user
who logs into that machine. The registry entry is created in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
Here are the steps required to create this key:
1. Create a new DWORD with a name of TabProcGrowth
2. Modify the value (right click, select Modify)
3. There should be a 0 in the Value data: text box.
4. Base = Hexadecimal.
5. Click OK
6. Close Internet Explorer, open and try the task again.
Implementing the TabProcGrowth registry setting will also help prevent Access Violation errors in Workforce
ESP.
