Communicating effectively in teamsFor teams to work successfully people in the team need to communicate their opinions and ideas in a clear and concise manner

This can be referred to as positive communication

Positive communication skills

For a team to work effectively, it’s essential that team members have the skills to communicate positively.

By communicating positively co-workers need to be able to express their ideas and concerns in a clear and calm manner.

Communication styles

When we think about communication styles the 3 most common we refer to include:

Passive

Assertive

Aggressive

Page 7: Work with others week 9

PASSIVE

Passive communicators tend to let others have their way as they don't let others know how they are feeling or what they are thinking.

Page 8: Work with others week 9

ASSERTIVE

The most effective communication style to use is to be assertive. This allows you to express your ideas and concerns in a manner, which will engage the listener and can lead into developing strategies for your suggestions to be

put into actions.

Page 9: Work with others week 9

AGGRESSIVE

Aggressive communicators use force or intimidation to get what they want. They don't appear to care what others want and demand that their ideas are heard and acted upon.

Group work: Teams

Two groups are to work as teams. The aim is to construct a FREESTANDING robot out of A4 paper – (plain and/or coloured) & cardboard.

FIRST – decide what you want to make. Either do a drawing, OR make a small marquette or template to assist the final piece.

SECOND – decide on what you need to be successful in your task – some resources could include...scissors, staplers, paper clips, markers, sticky tape or masking tape...these are all available downstairs.
