SUMMARY

In February of 1973 a single, short diamond drill hole was put down on the

northen portion of the Thompson Option to test a strong induced polarization anomaly. The

hole intersected 52.5 1 of 2 to 37. pyrite and 5.5' of 4*/. disseminated magnetite.

Both the I.P. anomaly and the associated weak magnetic response have been adequately

explained and no further work is recommended at the present time.

INTRODUCTION

' In January and February of 1973, McPhar Geophysics Limited outlined an I.P. anomaly,

in'excess of 3,200' long, along the northern portion of the Thompson Option, (McPhar

Zone No, 14). All of the anoroalouszonc, which is underlain by Sturgeon Lake, appears

to be within the rhyolite unit that hosts the Mattagami Lake Mines "F" zone. The

axis of the anomaly is nearly parallel to and approximately 500' north of the lower

rhyolite - pillowed 6 brecciated andesite contact.

The I.P. anomaly is described by McPhar as follows:

"This definite zone extends from line 60 -f OOE to beyond line 92 4- OOE. Frequency Effects increase from slightly anomalous in the western part of this zone to strongly anomalous on Line 84 + OOE, line 88 -h OOE, and line 92 -H OOE. A zone of moderately low resistivity values correlates with the anomalous Frequency Effects. Detail coverage using 100' dipoles on line 84 4- OOE and line 88 -h OOE suggest the source to be a steeply dipping body, probably composed of sulphides which become more conductive with depth. This anomalous body appears to be lens tlum 100' in width, and comes to within 100' of the overburden surf ac./."

Prior to drilling, lines 88 -f- OOE and 92 -f OOE were surveyed Tt 50' station

intervals with a Geometrics proton magnetometer. A weak (100 gammas) coincident magnetic

response was recorded but was not thought to bc overly significant with respect to the

variability noted elsewhere, (refer to mag. profile on drill section).

GEOLOGY

Drill hole 1057-73-1 (collar 88 + OOE-2 + 50S, dip -630 . 1800 azimuth, length 417')

intersected 54' of water and 40' of overburden before reaching bedrock. Bedrock is

comprised of thick bands of lapilli tuff of acid to intermediate composition, with the

individual bands being defined by the homogeneity or heterogeneity of the fragment

composition (huff a.id chert fragments in a fine-grained, weakly chloritic tuff matrix).

mm . . -2-

The rocks are weakly to moderately foliated with weak sericite, chlorite and chloritoid

alteration being generally confined to slip plane surfaces.

Trace amounts of fine grained disseminated magnetite and pyrite are ubiquitous

throughout. No economic sulphides were observed. A weak sulphide zone, consisting of

2 to 37, pyrite which occurs primarily as narrow, fine-grained seams with weak

accompanying chlorite alteration, was cut fron 196.5 1 to 249' (52.5' core length and

approximately 46' true width). This in turn is underlain by 5.5' of moderate chlorite

alteration with 3 to 47* disseminated, medium-grained euhedral ..rystals of magnetite

and IV. pyrite.

The apparent strike of bedrock intersected in hole 1057-73-1 is east-west while

the dip appears to vary from 72 0 to 780 north. No significant deformation was observed.

CONCLUSIONS

The pyrite zone correlates well with the detailed I.P. anomaly and the 5,5' of 47.

magnetite appears to be the causative source of the 100 gamma mag. response.

Drill hole G-2 (Amax, 1971), located SOU 1 west and on strike with 1057-73-1,

intersected 31' of 57. to 107. pyrite (no trace of economic sulphides) indicating a

narrowing of the zone to the west.

In view of the absence of even trace amounts of economic sulphides in either

drill hole, no further work appears warranted at the present time.

Respectfully Submitted
