At the launch of the redeveloped Crofts Reserve training facility, Mr Shane Sexton, Western Jets Regional Manager, thanked a number of groups involved in the project, including Hobsons Bay Council, AFL Victoria, Williamstown Football Club and the Burbank Group for their combined effort in finding a suitable site, planning, designing and building of the facility.

“The Burbank Group have done an absolutely magnificent job in building this facility,” Mr Sexton said. “They’ve done it as a community benefit and as sponsors of the Western Jets Footy Club. It’s been a fantastic effort and has been on going now since 2002.”

“We were looking around and we really needed a Centre of Excellence to do what we do. Hobsons Bay [council] welcomed us here in 2007 and we are very grateful to run our programs here. “

The facility will now allow in excess of 400 teenage boys on an annual basis to access a high class facility which will undoubtedly assist these players in their endeavours to meet their full potential. Adding to the existing social rooms, canteen, kitchen and change room, the venue is now equipped with high quality ground lighting, a gymnasium, auditorium, medical, meeting and property rooms and expanded change rooms. The upgraded facilities now meet the AFL Victoria criteria as a ‘centre of excellence’.

Jarrod Sanfilippo, Managing Director of the Burbank Group said building homes and communities is something the Burbank Group is very passionate about.

“Local sports clubs encourage community engagement while providing families with positive, healthy activities to share together,” he said.

“Burbank is proud to be part of the Football community in the West, whether it be the Western Jets, Williamstown Football Club and of course Burbank Oval, we are proud of our strong history of association – that we are able to give back to the community in general.”

The Western Jets are part of a number of clubs and associations, which receive Burbank’s support including Williamstown Football Club, Mernda Football and Cricket Clubs, Wallan Football and Netball Clubs, Geelong Soccer Club and the Altona Gators Basketball Club.

Building Manager, Mr Lindsay Mann, Building Manager at Burbank said the project went smoothly.

“This was an interesting project requiring a lot of onsite engineering skills. Marrying the 30 year old slab with the new slab to carry the weight of the new building presented its own challenges but with the consistent commitment of people like our Site Supervisor, Geoff Mann, Hobsons Bay Superintendant Geoff Norman and AFL Victoria’s Steven Smith, the project went very well,” he said.

“The addition of a disabled chair lift along the stairs was new to our experience and a great final touch to the job which finished right on our projected completion date.”

Presenting Mr Sanfilippo and the Burbank Group with a signed Western Bulldogs gernsy was Doggies’ Captain, Brad Johnson, a former Western Jets player and great role model for the club.

“You can see from the facilities down there, that when they go out to train, they can get themselves up and going at a better and faster rate which I think will be a vast improvement for the Jets in general,” Mr Johnson said.

“We’ve seen the kids out there today – so many kids will come through this facility and will respect it and keep it in the condition in which you presented it today.”

Hobsons Bay Mayor Cr Bill Tehan spoke of the partnership between council and community.

“Hold you heads up high - at the end of the day we have achieved what we set out to achieve for the benefit of the kids of the future,” the Mayor said.

“They are the reason why you’ve done this. As a council we are very proud to be partners in this project. Proud to be partners with you people and proud to be partners with the kids who will use this facility… this is an example of a partnership that works.”

2010 MAjOR SpONSORSHIp TO GEELONG

SOCCER CLUBGeelong Soccer club recently joined a number of clubs and associations which receive Burbank’s support including Williamstown Football Club, Mernda Football and Cricket Clubs, Wallan Football and Netball Clubs and close to the heart of its head office in Altona, the Altona Gators Basketball Club.

Anyone who belongs to a club will know how important corporate support can be. Sponsorship helps alleviate the pressure of overhead costs like building maintenance, club uniforms and insurance, allowing more of the community the chance to participate. Burbank has a long history of support for active lifestyles in the community and recently announced its new major sponsorship of Geelong Soccer Club.

Geelong Soccer Club has approximately 250 members with their seniors competing in the State League Division 3, against teams such as Lalor, Keilor, Hume, Sunbury & Cairnlea to name a few.

Treasurer Steve D’Andrea says the Club has seen some great successes this season giving them some hope for promotion next year.

“The funds we have received from Burbank has been used for equipment in Junior development and in growing the club. We now also have two women’s teams,” he said.

“Overall the club is travelling very well this year with our Boys Under 17 team currently sitting at 2nd and Mens Division 2, 4th on the ladder.”
