Mapping
• Business and resident survey feedback on telecommunications and ICT
• Existing telecommunications infrastructure• Current broadband coverage• Regional ISP Providers• NBN coverage– Bacchus Marsh NBN Stage 2 release site area– Australia NBN initial, NBN fibre, NBN wireless
Case studies
Writing up case studies including:• A public internet access site in a small Wimmera township• Bannockburn Chamber of Commerce • Bannockburn Primary School • Cave Hill Creek Camp• Central Highlands Agribusiness Forum • Creswick Post Office • Dulkeith Computer Services • Horsham Colour• Luv-a-duck• Montemedia • Phunkemedia• Ramirez Farming • Virtually Yours
Collaboration models
• Document regional readiness for utilising broadband communications in areas including:– Agribusiness– Health– Education
• Describe model for ongoing:– Regional ICT collaboration– Advocacy
Positioning Victoria• ICT is a fundamental driver for long term change– What approaches to ICT planning can be shared?– How can communities identify ICT priorities based
on their unique regional needs, attributes and assets?
– What tools and approaches might assist in increasing readiness for broadband communications and effective use?
– What partnerships can be forged to leverage ICT regionally/locally?
RDA Victoria
Build a regional knowledge base
Develop evidence base for local advocacy Northern Grampians Shire response summary
Develop evidence base for local advocacy Internet cost (1= $150 per month - 5 = $15 per month)
Develop evidence base for local advocacy Internet speed rating (5 = excellent/very high - 1 = poor/very low)
Develop evidence base for local advocacy Mobile quality (5 = excellent/very high - 1 = poor/very low)
Share knowledge about the NBN
NBN 1st and 2nd Stage release sites
Gather information to support NBN Co
• Work with NBN Co and others to identify planning information requirements and gaps
• Liaise with RDAs and LGAs so they can be informed about the type of data that would be beneficial
• Provide services to support the contribution of data from multiple custodians
• Map outputs on a local, regional and statewide basis
• Develop a knowledge base that potentially supports a more rapid rollout of the NBN in Victoria
Example of NBN data requirements
• Demographic data (more current than ABS)• Location of commercial, industrial precincts• Growth corridors• Greenfield sites• Environmental and heritage overlays• Areas currently poorly serviced by existing broadband• Govt properties (Local, State and Federal)• Educational and Health facilities• Barriers to construction (rivers, highways, cliffs)• Knowledge of existing infrastructure (exchanges, RIM & HFC)• Infrastructure programs (significant LGA civil works and or
other planned developments
Coordinate Regional ICT planning
• Confirm State Government and Victorian RDA Committee support for coordinated regional ICT planning
• Establish a Steering Committee to oversee research and engagement activities
• Extend the research tools and approaches piloted in the Grampians
• Support RDA Committees in leading research and engagement with LGAs and communities
• Build a regional knowledge base, support local advocacy, assist the NBN rollout and inform strategic planning
