    Begin by nding a goodplacetoset upyour router/accesspoint. Some things toconsider:

    Youllneedtobeabletoplugyourinternetconnectionintoit,soitshouldgowithinreachoftheLANcablefromyourDSLorCablemodem.Youllalsowantapoweroutletnearby.

    Keeptheaccesspointascentralinyourworkareaaspossible.Signalstrengthandspeedfalloffwithdistance.

    Higherisoftenbetter.Forinstance,setituponthetopshelfofabookcaseratherthanthebottomone,ifpossible.

    Doyouneedapasswordorotherinformationtologintoyourinternetconnection?ManyDSLconnectionsrequireinformationlikeglobalIPaddress,subnetmask,defaultgatewayaddress,DNSserveraddress,orPPPoEparametersinordertoconnect.Cablemodemsusuallydontrequireextrainformation.IfyouhaveaDSLinternetconnection,makesurethatyouhaveanynecessaryinformationhandybeforeyoucontinue.YourInternetServiceProvidercangiveyouthisinformationifyoudontknowit.

    ToinitiallycongureyourAirStation,youlluseawiredconnectiontoyourcomputer.Onceyouveconnectedtotheinternetthroughtherouter,youmayswitchtoawireless

    connectionifdesired.ThecomputerusedtoconguretheAirStationshouldbesettoobtainanIPaddressautomaticallyusingaDHCPserver(thisisthedefault).TheWHR-G300NhasadefaultLANIPaddressof192.168.11.1*andSubnetMaskof255.255.255.0.

    1.PowerdowntheCableorDSLmodemandthecomputerwhichwillbeusedtoconguretheAirStationrouter.

    2.PlugtheCableorDSLmodemsEthernetcableintotheAirStationsWANport.Initially,youmayneedtounplugthiscablefromyourcomputer,huborotherrouter.

    3.PlugtheprovidedEthernetcableintooneofthefourLANportsontheAirStationandplugtheotherendintoyourcomputersEthernetadapter(NIC).

    4. Important: turn everything on in the correct order!! PoweronyourcableorDSLmodemandwaitonefullminute,thenpowerontheAirStationandwaitonefullminute,and

    nallypoweronthecomputerwhichwillbeusedtoconguretheAirStation.

    *InAPmode,thedefaultIPaddressis192.168.11.100.

    LaunchawebbrowseronthecomputerthatyoureusingtoconguretheAirStation.

    Enter 192.168.11.1intotheURLeld.Naturally,ifyouchangeyourAirStationsIPaddress,youllhavetoenterthenewaddressinstead.

    Awindowwillopen,promptingyoutoenteraUserIDandPassword.

    Enter rootastheUsernameandleavethepasswordeldblank.

    YourAirStationsSmartRoutertechnologywilldeterminethetypeofinternetconnectionyouhaveautomatically,andaskyouforanyneededinformation.If

    yourISPassignsIPsautomatically(mostcableprovidersdo),theirDHCPserverwillgiveyourrouteranIPaddress.Ifadditionallogininformationisrequiredtoconnecttotheinternet,thewizardwillaskforit.Enteranyrequiredlogin

    AOSS(AirStationOne-TouchSecureSystem)isasimplesystemforconguringyourwirelessnetworksecurely.IfyourrouterandyourclientdeviceareinstalledandbothsupportAOSS,thenmakinga

    securewirelessconnectionbetweenthemisveryeasy.PushtheAOSSbuttononthetopofyourrouterandholditinforafewseconds.TheAOSSlightwillbegintoashamber.YounowhavetwominutestopushtheAOSSbuttononyourclientdeviceandnishtheconnection.

    AnAOSScompatiblestandaloneclientdevicewillprobablyhavealittleredbuttonlabeledAOSSonit.Pushthebutton!About15secondslater,youllhaveasecurenetworkconnection.

    IfyourclientdeviceisaPCcard,CardBus,orPCIadaptor,theAOSSbuttonwillprobablybeinitsClient Manager Software.Checkyour

    AOSS

    clientdevicesusermanualforinstructionsonwheretopushorclicktheAOSSbutton.

    Afteryouvepressedbothbuttons,itwilltakeabout15secondsfortheconnectiontocomplete.Whenitsnished,theAOSSlightwillglowasolidamber.Younowhaveasecurenetworkconnection!

    Some things to keep in mind with AOSS:

    OnlyoneAOSSwirelessclientadaptercanbeconguredwiththeAOSSrouteratatime.Thebuttonswillneedtobere-pressedtoconnecteachadditionalAOSSwirelessclient adapter.

    ItisnotnecessarytoAOSSclientdevicesthathavealreadybeenconguredviaAOSS,unlesssignicantchangeshavebeenmadetothewirelessnetwork.

    DonotattempttoconguretwoseparateAOSSnetworksatthesametime,asitmaycauseundesiredcongurations.

    IfanundesiredclienthasconnectedviaAOSS,itcanbedisconnectedfromwithintheWHR-G300Nsweb-basedcongurationtool.

    EvenifyourclientdevicedoesntofciallysupportAOSS,youmaystillbeabletouseAOSSifyouinstallBuffalosClientManagersoftwareonyourcomputer.Itworkswithmostclientdevices,includingmanymadebyothermanufacturers.Youcandownloadit from www.buffalotech.com.
