Role of Regional IICC WHO/EURO

IICC has played a strong role in;– support of polio eradication and diphtheria control,– towards sustainable immunization programmes in many

countries there is a clear need for its continued (new and

enlarged) role, to strengthen various aspects of routine immunization services

critical in providing and coordinating support and overseeing commitment to national immunization programmes in general

a functioning Interagency Coordinating Committee (ICC) or equivalent at national level endorsing;– country proposals – national immunization plans – annual, mid term and final reviews

Rationale

To provide a facilitative tool to tackle major immunization challenges– improved access to sustainable

immunization services– expand use of all existing cost-effective

vaccines– accelerated development and introduction

of new vaccines

General Objective

provide national governments and partners to jointly identify resources and technical assistance needed to achieve the goals of the national immunization programmes

Role of National ICCs -1

New and larger roles in supporting governments to improve and expand national immunization programmes

Advocacy to increase national commitment identify required resources and assistance to

strengthen immunization services – for sustainable – self-sufficient immunization programmes – selected disease control and/or elimination targets


Role of National ICCs -2

coordinate support of existing partners to ensure most effective use of resources,

identify and invite additional partners to meet the needs of the country

do not replace current funding or pre-empty new sources of funding

support formulation and implementation of strategies and activities,

monitor accomplishment and performance
