The newsletter also endeavours to provide information about other community services and events taking place in Temora Shire. Council’s Positive Ageing work-ing group consists of repre-sentatives from local organisa-tions involved in supporting the aged and has been meeting regularly for close to 9 months and as a result are producing some exciting outcomes. The group are compiling an in-formation folder containing in-formative flyers and fact sheets on the services, products and opportunities available to as-sist residents age with dignity, often in their own homes. There are also plans for an Aged-Care Expo to be held in Senior’s Week 2018. THE Narraburra News

Yes, Ministers!

Temora was abuzz with visits from several State and Federal Ministers in August. Wednesday 16th August saw the Hon. Melinda Pavey, the NSW Roads Minister, in Temora to discuss the funding implications for the proposed bypass. On Thursday 17th the Hon. Adam Marshall, Minister for Tourism and Major Events addressed the Council Meeting and the Premier of New South Wales, the Hon. Gladys Berejikilian, attended a reception at Temora Aviation Muse-um where she formally thanked the Hon. Katrina Hodgkinson for her time as the State Member of Parliament for Cootamundra leading up to Ms Hodgkinson’s retirement from the position on August 31.

The Shipton Villas, new residences being constructed as part of the Dr Parry Homes organisation, are looking to be ready for their new occupants by the new year.Jeff Cornford, Chairman of the Dr Parry Homes board, said he hoped the first five units will be complet-ed by Christmas with residents to be moving in early in the new year. Situated on the corner of Crowley and Grey Streets, the five units are the first stage of a much larger project, with 15 units planned over the next few years. Construc-tion on the remaining 10 units will begin once the first five are sold. The aim of the new units is to provide suitable accommoda-tion for older residents who are looking to downsize and have less responsibility around the home. Gardens will be cared for as part of the maintenance costs of the agreement, and options for home care will also be available through Pinnacle Community Services.“Prospective occupants will pay an upfront fee to purchase their unit, and will have low monthly fees for maintenance of the prop-erty, but when they vacate their home they will receive a 90% rebate on their initial payment. All amenities will be paid for by the occupants.” Mr Cornford said.“Prospective occupants will go through a selection process” he explained “but the units are mainly aimed at people between the ages of 65-80 who have mini-mal family support in town.”Mr Cornford has been involved with Dr Parry Homes since their beginnings in 1968. He, and all those involved with Dr Parry Homes, work tirelessly for the op-portunity for our ageing residents to age with dignity and comfort of their own homes.
