What was the Industrial Revolution? During the 1700s and early 1800s, great
changes took place in the lives and work of people in several parts of the world. These changes resulted from the development of industrialization.
The Industrial Revolution created an enormous increase in the production of many kinds of goods.
It changed the Western world from a basically rural and agricultural society to a basically urban and industrial society.
What was it like before the Industrial Revolution?
Cottage Industry: Before the revolution, manufacturing was done by hand or simple machines. Most people worked at home in rural areas.

British Colonialism By the mid-1700's, the country had
become the world's leading colonial power.
Great Britain's colonies not only provided raw materials, but also provided markets for manufactured products.
Population Boom Medical advancements allowed for
higher birth rates and lower death rates. This allowed for a large labor force for
growing industries. It also allowed for a larger market for
the goods these industries were producing.
Agricultural Revolution
The Agricultural Revolution is the name given to the drastic changes in the farming process that occurred in the 1600's onwards.
Agricultural improvement began in the centuries before the Industrial revolution got going and it may have played a part in freeing up labour from the land to work in the new industrial mills of the eighteenth century.
Jethro Tull- The Seed Drill The seed drill allows farmers to sow
seeds in well-spaced rows at specific depths at a specific seed rate
This invention gave farmers much greater control over the depth that the seed was planted and the ability to cover the seeds without back-tracking.
Improved crop yield by up to 8 times the amount.
