From Your Pastor … Greetings ORLC Family,

Well, another Christmas has come. I find these years passing faster and faster as I get older. My family has grown, and I am very blessed. I thought I might share a bit with you about them.

Wylynn: A new addition to our family, she has slowly found her niche in our crew. She is at least for now our athlete. She wrestles for Jefferson High School, and she loves it although often she tells me about people bigger than her throwing her around the mat. I as a father am concerned when my daughters are receiving concussions, but she seems to love it. Anyway, we are blessed by her and very soon she will be ours permanently.

Gracelynn: Every day it seems I notice that my eldest daughter has turned another corner. She loves Drama Club at SFLS. She plays piano, violin and she still sings beautifully. This one loves to act and I think that is going to become her primary love. On top of all that, she dresses more ladylike, wears earrings and does other mature girl things often. I am not ready for her to be a grown up. I miss my cheeky little Gracelynn who loved to wrinkle her nose and giggle at me.

Joy: What can I say about Joy? She can be both wonderful and helpful. Kind and attentive. But she can be argumentative and surly. But what can I do? She is my Joy, Joy. Whenever I write Joy in my sermons, I always capitalize it. It is a little thing between me and her. She is my Joy. She is quite the singer, and she is rapidly learning both piano and violin. I have a sneaking suspicion she will like drama too, but I have yet to convince her to try out. She also wants to play volleyball. She will be the first in the family to give it a go and we are interested in finding out if our genes are only good at music and academics or if it might be possible that we might be able to grow athletes too. She loves wearing make-up. That has been an adjustment for dear old dad. I am not sure if I like it…

Moses: The Prince of the family. He is the first-born son, and he has captured a special place in the hearts of his parents. Unfortunately, he doesn’t occupy that same place with his sisters. It seems like he spends a lot of his day being yelled at by his older sisters. He loves playing games and he is really good. He beat me fair and square a couple times at Blokus and Ticket To Ride. He has started piano and he is a great singer. We tried softball but I don’t know if he liked it all that much. I was kind of hoping he was going to pitch the Twins to a world series one day. Oh well. Moses is the king of procrastination. I have never seen anyone who can stretch a ten-minute bedtime routine into about three and a half hours.

Esther: Our baby loves to dress up, sing, and read with her momma. She loves going to school and she loves her cats. She has one real cat Toby and several fake ones. She is such a different girl than all our other children. Red hair and blue eyes from a family that has all brown hair. She is unique both in looks and in attitude. She cracks jokes all the time and says things that are far too mature for her regularly. She makes me laugh often and I love her so much. I think she will be a great musician too but beyond that she is a mystery to me.

Eli: The baby is crawling everywhere and is often a happy guy. We have him at daycare though and his year there has been tough. Often the kids get sick, and he has been sick a lot. We have our good moments where he giggles and smiles and he sure is cute. We are glad he is part of our family. I guess we will find out as he grows what things he is good at and what he likes. One thing we have noticed is that he really likes to dance to music.

Laura: Well, we moved into a new era for our family. My wife has begun her career at Avera Medical. She is a social worker there and works with patients helping them find places to go after their care and she deals with other situations as well. She seems to like it and she likes the people she works with and the environment at Avera. It is a good place to work. She still volunteers her time, takes care of the house and the kids and supports me in what I do at the church. She is amazing to me, and I am glad she is with me still. I am very proud of her and growth as a person all the time. She is my favorite person, and I couldn’t do live without her.

Well, I hope the update was fun. I am still glad to be able to preach the word and administer the sacraments in this place. God is good and continues to provide. We look forward to Christmas and the birth of Jesus. What a time that will be for us to celebrate together.

A very merry Christmas to you all,

Rev. Drevlow
