Midnight sun adventure

Discover Arctic present whale watching from Vesterlen.

We depart from Sortland and head north towards Andenes.

A local guide will accompany you telling you about the nature, places and history of the islands. And you will, of course, see and learn more about the whales.

Discover Arctic takes you to the land of the midnight sun and its spectacular wildlife: a true adventure!You will be picked up by a guide

and travel by bus to the islands of Vesterlen. Dinner is an option that can be arranged in some of our local restaurants.

An informative talk and a tour round the town to learn more about the blue city concept.

You will hear about how the idea was born;

The tour starts and finishes in the centre of Sortland.

We will guide you through Nyksund, an old fishing village which shows a lot of the old life.

Today there are no fishermen left, but you will experience

and learn about the way and conditions of living there.

After the visit lunch will be served.

The salMOn rOe is only a few millime-tres, and yet it is still big enough to create one of Norways most important industries. Did you know that Norwegian salmon is en-joyed by 12 million people in more than 100 countries every day? The Norwegian Salmon is known for its high quality and great taste, and is Norways most renowned product. Salmon farming also provides opportunities and settlement along the coast of Norway, and is together with fishery the most impor-tant industry in Vesterlen.

akvakulTur i vesTerlen is a new adventure centre for aquaculture that opened in 2011. At our facility you get to go out to sea and visit our fish farm. In the new exhibitions we give you the story of Norwe-gian aquaculture industry from the early beginning in the 50s and 60s until today with high-tech operation. We have a funny tunnel that kids can crawl through, com-puter games, under water cameras, exciting films and a 12 meters long map made from glass where every light shows where there is fish farming in all of northern Norway.

A new experience from Discover Arctic is encountering the white-tail eagles while kajakking! The trip starts in Sortland and we take a bus to Ringstad,

a small fishing village and our final destination. Certified guides teaches safe kajakking.
