O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! to ev’ry believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see.

THE GREETINGCelebrant The Lord be with youAll and also with you

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATIONAll Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all

desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is

this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all.

All Lord our God, in our sin we have avoided your call. Our love for you is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes away early. Have mercy on us; deliver us from judgement; bind up our wounds and revive us; in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Celebrant The Lord enrich us with his grace, and nourish us with his blessing; the Lord defend us in trouble and keep us from all evil; the Lord accept our prayers, and absolve us from our offences, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

All Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENTWe stand to share the peace:The PeaceCelebrant Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God in one

body by the cross. We meet in his name and share his peace.

The peace of the Lord be always with you

All And also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love.

Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend©2001 Thankyou Music

In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground,Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace,When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all—

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 8: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewthat make it difficult for you to come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness,Scorned by the ones He came to save.Till on that cross as Jesus died,The wrath of God was satisfied; For ev'ry sin on Him was laid—Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day,Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory,Sin's curse has lost its grip on me;For I am His and He is mine—Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death—This is the pow'r of Christ in me;From life's first cry to final breath,Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man,Can ever pluck me from His hand;Till He returns or calls me home—Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand!

Celebrant Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

All All things come from you, and of your own do we give you.

We sit or stand for:The Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord is hereAll His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give thanks and praise.

Celebrant Blessed are you, Lord God, our light and our salvation;to you be glory and praise for ever. From the beginning you have created all things and all your works echo the silent music of your praise. In the fullness of time you made us in your image, the crown of all creation. You give us breath and speech, that with angels and archangels and all the powers of heaven we may find a voice to sing your praise:

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest. How wonderful the work of your hands, O Lord. As a mother tenderly gathers her children, you embraced a people as your own. When they turned away and rebelled your love remained steadfast. From them you

raised up Jesus our Saviour, born of Mary, to be the living bread, in whom all our hungers are satisfied. He offered his life for sinners, and with a love stronger than death he opened wide his arms on the cross.

On the night before he died, he came to supper with his friends and, taking bread, he gave you thanks. He broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

Praise to you Lord Jesus:All Dying you destroyed our death,

Rising you restored our life:Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Father, we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross; we remember his dying and rising in glory, and we rejoice that he intercedes for us at your right hand. Pour out your Holy Spirit as we bring before you these gifts of your creation; may they be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. As we eat and drink these holy things in your presence, form us in the likeness of Christ, and build us into a living temple to your glory. Remember, Lord, your Church in every land. Reveal her unity, guard her faith, and preserve her in peace.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Bring us at the last with St Margaret and all the saintsto the vision of that eternal splendour for which you have created us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, by whom, with whom, and in whom, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, we worship you, Father almighty, in songs of everlasting praise:

All Blessing and honour and glory and powerbe yours for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of CommunionCelebrant Come, not because you are strong, but because you

are weak. Come, not because any goodness of your own gives you any right to come, but because you need mercy and help. Come, because you love the Lord a little, and would like to love him more.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they

will gladly offer you this ministry.

Communion Hymns

Hymn 820:

When I survey the wondrous cross,on which the Prince of glory died,my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 13: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewthat make it difficult for you to come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boastsave in the death of Christ my God;all the vain things that charm me most,I sacrifice them to his blood.

See from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down;did e’er such love and sorrow meet,or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson like a robe, spreads o’er his body on the tree;then am I dead to all the globe, and all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small;love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

The Prayers after CommunionCelebrant Eternal God, who gave us this holy meal in which we

have celebrated the glory of the cross and the victory of your martyr Margaret: by our communion with Christ in his saving death and resurrection, give us with all your saints the courage to conquer evil and so to share the fruit of the tree of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 14: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield · Web viewthat make it difficult for you to come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please

All Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen

THE BLESSINGCelebrant The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep

your hearts and minds, in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Can You Help? Holiday club is just around the corner and we have nearly all the resources we need. However, we need quite a quantity of newspaper for one of our activities, and we could also benefit from having some larger cardboard boxes. If you are able to help, newspaper can be left in the priest’s vestry and Jamie will be happy to speak to you if you can source some big cardboard boxes. Also needed - Please can you save any sports cap bottles for our holiday club. Any size, as long as it has a sports cap on it. Please make sure they are clean and give to Jamie or Naomi by 30th July. Thank you!

The ‘Living Alongside Muslims’ course comes to an end at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 25th July with a talk and question time lead by the diocesan Inter-Faith adviser Revd Canon Dr Andrew Wingate OBE. This final session is open to all who may want to come and NOT just those who have been on the course. Andrew is the founding Director of the St Philip's Centre for Study and Engagement in Leicester; a consultant/teacher in the area of Inter Faith Relations (particularly within Scandinavia); a published author and acknowledged theologian – he has much experience and wisdom with regards to inter-faith issues. Do please come and join us for a very thought-provoking evening.

Christianity Explored. We plan to run a seven-week course on Wednesday evenings in September and October, based in Lychgate Cottage, with a day together on Saturday 30th September. Each session will include watching a DVD and small group discussion, with a shared meal on the first and last evening. Christianity Explored is our parish preparation for adult Confirmation, but it’s also suitable for anyone seeking answers to questions about the Christian faith. Several members our our congregation have taken part in this course in recent years and would be happy to talk to you about it. If you would like to know more, please speak to Jill Bell either in church, by ringing 521699 or emailing [email protected], or ask any member of the clergy.
