Welcome to St Margaret’s Church IfieldSunday 18th June 2017

Trinity 1

All are welcome to St Margaret’s and we encourage all to take part fully in this service. If you have mobility issues that make it difficult for you to

come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please notify our sides-people, and we will come to you.

Please do stay for coffee served at the back of church after the service. There is a toilet at the back of church should you need to use it during the

service.

THE GATHERINGWe stand and sing:Hymn 583: John Monsell.

O WORSHIP THE LORD IN THE BEAUTY OF HOLINESS;bow down before him, his glory proclaim; with gold of obedience and incense of lowliness, kneel and adore him: the Lord is his name.

Low at his feet lay thy burden of carefulness: high on his heart he will bear it for thee, comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness, guiding thy steps as may best for thee be.

Fear not to enter his courts in the slenderness of the poor wealth thou wouldst reckon as thine: truth in its beauty, and love in its tenderness, these are the off’rings to lay on his shrine.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

These, though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness, he will accept for the name that is dear; mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness, trust for our trembling and hope for our fear.

THE GREETINGCelebrant The Lord be with youAll and also with you

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATIONAll Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all

desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE Celebrant We have too often exchanged the worship of the living

God for idols of our own imagining.

As we gather to offer our praises to the holy and undivided Trinity, and to worship him in spirit and in truth, let us call to mind our sins.

Celebrant Father, you come to meet us when we return to you:Lord, have mercy.

All Lord, have mercy.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Jesus, you died on the cross for our sins:Christ, have mercy.Christ, have mercy.

Spirit, you give us life and peace:Lord, have mercy.Lord, have mercy.

Celebrant The Lord enrich us with his grace, and nourish us with his blessing; the Lord defend us in trouble and keep us from all evil; the Lord accept our prayers, and absolve us from our offences, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

All Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,we worship you, we give you thanks,we praise you for your glory.Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;you are seated at the right hand of the Father:receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One,you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

THE COLLECTCelebrant O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in

you, mercifully accept our prayers and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

We sit for the readings. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading Exodus 19:2-8a,

This is the word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God

Second Reading Romans 5:1-8

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Hymn 317: Stuart Townend. Copyright © 1995 Kingsway's Thankyou Music.

HOW DEEP THE FATHER'S LOVE FOR US,how vast beyond all measure, that he should give his only Sonto make a wretch his treasure. How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns his face away,as wounds which mar the Chosen Onebring many sons to glory.

Behold the man upon a cross,my sin upon his shoulders;ashamed, I hear my mocking voicecall out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him thereuntil it was accomplished;his dying breath has brought me life -I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,no gifts, no power, no wisdom;but I will boast in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward?I cannot give an answer, but this I know with all my heart, his wounds have paid my ransom.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Remain standing and turn to face the Gospel:

The Gospel ReadingMatthew 9:35-10.8

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.

All Glory to you, O Lord.

At the end:This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Remain standing until the Priest has introduced the Sermon:

THE SERMON

THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Celebrant We say together in faith

All Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.

Celebrant We believe in God the Father, who created all things:All for by his will they were created

and have their being.

Celebrant We believe in God the Son, who was slain:

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

All for with his blood, he purchased us for God,from every tribe and language, from every people and nation.

Celebrant We believe in God the Holy Spirit:All the Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come!’

Even so come, Lord Jesus! Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSIONPrayers for the Church, the world, and for all human need. After each petition the following response is used:

The peace of the triune God be always with you

All And also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love.

Hymn 34: John Newton.

AMAZING GRACE! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found; was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come. ‘Tis grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

The lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; he will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

When we’ve been there a thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun.

Celebrant Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation; through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer which the earth has given and human hands have made. They will become for us the bread of life and cup of salvation.

All Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation; through your goodness we have ourselves to offer, fruit of the womb and formed through your love. We will become the people of God.

All Blessed be God for ever.

We sit or stand for:The Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord is hereAll His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give thanks and praise.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For with your only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirit you are one God, one Lord. All that you reveal of your glory, the same we believe of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, without any difference or inequality.

We, your holy Church, acclaim you, Father of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship, and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.Three Persons we adore, one in being and equal in majesty. And so with angels and archangels, with cherubim and seraphim, we sing for ever of your glory:

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

Great is the mystery of Faith:All Christ has died

Christ is risenChrist will come again

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of St Margaret and all the saints, may praise and glorify you forever, through Jesus Christ our Lord;by whom, and with whom, and in whom,

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, forever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yoursnow and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of Communion

Celebrant Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

with thanksgiving.

We sing the Agnus Dei. A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

All are welcome to either come and receive Communion or a blessing. If you would like a blessing rather than to receive Communion (the bread and

wine) then please keep hold of your service sheet as you approach the servers at front of the church.

Laying on of hands for healing is offered in the south aisle chapel during the distribution of communion. This ministry is offered for your own

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they

will gladly offer you this ministry.

MAKE ME A CHANNEL OF YOUR PEACE. ‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’

(Romans 15:7)

Where there is hatred let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord; and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

O life. Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy.

Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

The Prayers after CommunionCelebrant Eternal Father, we thank you for nourishing us with

these heavenly gifts: may our communion strengthen us in faith, build us up in hope, and make us grow in love; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

THE BLESSING

Celebrant God the Father, who first loved us and made us accepted in the beloved Son, bless you. Amen.

God the Son, who loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, bless you. Amen.

God the Holy Spirit, who sheds abroad the love of God in our hearts, bless you. Amen.

The blessing of the one true God, to whom be all love and all glory for time and for eternity, come down upon you and remain with you always.Amen.

Hymn 660:Mike Anderson. Copyright © 1999 Kevin Mayhew Ltd.

SING IT IN THE VALLEYS, shout it from the mountain tops, Jesus to save us, and his saving never stops. He is King of kings and new life he brings, sing it in the valleys, shout it from the mountain tops, oh, shout it from the mountain tops.

Jesus, you are by my side, you take all my fears. If I only come to you, you will heal the pain of years.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

You have not deserted me, though I go astray. Jesus, take me in your arms, help me walk with you today.Jesus, you are living now, Jesus, I believe. Jesus, take me, heart and soul, yours alone I want to be.

THE DISMISSAL

Celebrant We go into the world to walk in God’s light, to rejoice in God’s love, and to reflect God’s glory.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. All In the name of Christ.
