THE GATHERINGWe stand at the entrance of the choir and clergy and sing:

Praise to the holiest in the height, and in the depth be praise:in all his words most wonderful, most sure in all his ways.

O loving wisdom of our God!When all was sin and shame,a second Adam to the fightand to the rescue came.

O wisest love! That flesh and blood,which did in Adam fail,should strive afresh against the foe,should strive and should prevail;

And that a higher gift than grace‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’

(Romans 15:7)

should flesh and blood refine,God’s presence and his very self, and essence all-divine.

O generous love! That he, who smotein man for man the foe,the double agony in manfor man should undergo;

And in the garden secretly, and on the cross on high, should teach his brethren, and inspireto suffer and to die.

Praise to the holiest in the height, and in the depth be praise:in all his words most wonderful, most sure in all his ways.

THE GREETINGCelebrant The Lord be with youAll and also with you

Celebrant: Alleluia! Christ is risenAll: He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is

this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

Celebrant Christ our passover lamb has been sacrificed for us.Let us therefore rejoice by putting away all malice and evil and confessing our sins with a sincere and true heart.

All Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis is sungA Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,we worship you, we give you thanks,we praise you for your glory.Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;you are seated at the right hand of the Father:receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One,you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE COLLECTCelebrant God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the

power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

We sit for the readings. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading Acts 16:9-15

This is the word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God

Second Reading Revelation 21:10,22-22:5

This is the word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God

Hymn Before the throne of God aboveI have a strong, a perfect plea:A great high priest, whose name is Love,Who ever lives and plead for me.My name is written on his hands,My name is hidden in his heart;I know that while in heaven he standsNo power can force me to depart,No power can force me to depart.

When Satan tempts me to despairAnd tells me of the guilt within,Upward I look, and see him thereWho made an end of all my sin.Because the sinless Saviour died,My sinful soul is counted free; For God, the just, is satisfiedTo look on him and pardon me,To look on him and pardon me.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Behold him there! The risen Lamb,My perfect, sinless Righteousness,The great unchangeable I AM,The king of glory and of grace! One with my Lord, I cannot die:My soul is purchased with his blood,My life is safe with Christ on high,With Christ, my saviour and my God,With Christ, my saviour and my God.

Remain standing and turn to face the Gospel:

The Gospel ReadingJohn 14:23-29

The Lord be with you.All And also with you.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.

All Glory to you, O Lord.At the end:

Remain standing until the Priest has introduced the Sermon:

THE SERMON

THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Let us declare our faith in God.All We believe in God the Father, from whom every family

in heaven and on earth is named. We believe in God the Son,who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high. We believe in one God;Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSIONPrayers for the Church, the world, and for all human need. After each petition the following responses may be used:

Lord in your mercyAll Hear our prayer

and at the end of the prayers: Merciful father,All accept these prayers for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENTWe stand to share the peace:The Peace

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said, ‘Peace be with you.’Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia.

The peace of the Lord be always with you. All And also with you.

Deacon Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love.

The Preparation of the TableThe Taking of the Bread and Wine

Christ’s is the world in which we move,Christ’s are the folk we’re summoned to love,Christ’s is the voice which calls us to care,And Christ is the one who meets us here.

To the lost Christ shows his face;To the unloved he gives his embrace; To those who cry in pain or disgrace,Christ makes with his friends a touching place.

Feel for the people we most avoid,Strange or bereaved or never employed;Feel for the women and feel for the menWho fear that their living is all in vain.

Feel for the parents who’ve lost their child,Feel for the women whom men have defiled,

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Feel for the baby for whom there’s no breast,And feel for the weary who find no rest.

Feel for the lives by life confused,Riddled with doubt, in loving abused;Feel for the lonely heart, conscious of sin,Which longs to be pure but fears to begin.

Should you wish to make a donation to the work of St Margaret’s church a collection bowl is situated by the entrance/exit door – please feel free to leave your gift in this bowl at any time before or after the service. If you are a UK Tax Payer do please consider placing your gift

in one of the yellow GiftAid envelopes provided and complete the required details as this will enable us to claim back 25p/£1 donated.

Thank you!

Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.

All All things come from you, and of your own do we give you.

We sit or stand for:The Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord is hereAll His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give thanks and praise.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, almighty and eternal Father, and in these days of Easter to celebrate with joyful hearts the memory of your wonderful works. For by the mystery of his passion Jesus Christ, your risen Son, has conquered the powers of death and helland restored in men and women the image of your glory. He has placed them once more in paradise and opened to them the gate of life eternal. And so, in the joy of this Passover, earth and heaven resound with gladness, while angels and archangels and the powers of all creation sing for ever the hymn of your glory:

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

Deacon Great is the mystery of Faith:All Christ has died

Christ is risenChrist will come again

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that daywhen your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yoursnow and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of CommunionJesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper.

All Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Come, not because you are strong, but because you are weak. Come, not because any goodness of your own gives you any right to come, but because you need mercy and help. Come, because you love the Lord a little, and would like to love him more.Come, because he loves you and gave himself for you.

We sing the Agnus Dei.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

All are welcome to either come and receive Communion or a blessing. If you would like a blessing rather than to receive Communion (the bread and

wine) then please keep hold of your service sheet as you approach the servers at front of the church.

Laying on of hands for healing is offered in the south aisle chapel during the distribution of communion. This ministry is offered for your own

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they

will gladly offer you this ministry.

Communion Hymns

Breathe on me, breath of God,fill me with life anew, that I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.

Breathe on me, breath of God,until my heart is pure;until with thee I will one will,to do and to endure.

Breathe on me, breath of God,till I am wholly thine;until this earthly part of meglows with thy fire divine.

Breathe on me, breath of God:so shall I never die,

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

but live with thee the perfect lifeof thine eternity.

Janet Lunt.Copyright © 1978 Sovereign Music UK.BROKEN FOR ME, broken for you,The body of Jesus, broken for you.

He offered His body, He poured out His soul;Jesus was broken, that we might be whole:

Come to My table and with Me dine;Eat of My bread and drink of My wine.

This is My body given for you;Eat it remembering I died for you.

This is My blood I shed for you;For your forgiveness, making you new.

The Prayers after CommunionCelebrant God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water

of eternal life: may we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness, through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen.

All Father of all, we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen

THE BLESSINGCelebrant The God of peace, who brought again from the dead

our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.

All Amen.

THE DISMISSALDeacon We go into the world to walk in God’s light,

to rejoice in God’s love, and to reflect God’s glory.

Go in the peace of Christ. Alleluia, Alleluia. All Thanks be to God. Alleluia, Alleluia.

Hymn

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown.Jesu, thou art all compassion,

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

pure unbounded love thou art;visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.

Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy grace receive;suddenly return, and never, never more thy temple leave.Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy host above;pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.

Finish then thy new creation:pure and spotless let us be;let us see thy great salvation, perfectly restored in thee;changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)
