How Was Richmond Hill

Created?Richmond Hill was part of terminal moraine

which is debris of massive dirt and

boulders that is created at the end of a

glacier. This material was pushed up by the

last glacier that has covered four million

miles of North America and ended around

the middle of Long Island around 10,000

years or ago.

Richmond Hill High School

Richmond Hill High School was founded in 1897 in the country setting of Richmond

Hill. Johnson Avenue Elementary School (now P.S. 51) was its first residence. The opening of the main high school building took

place in April, 1899. A domed astronomical

observatory, complete with a six thousand dollar

telescope, enhanced the new building. At first, it was

thought that the building was too large. However by

1923, the increased student population required a larger school. The new and present building opened in February,

1929.
