Project 3: Instructional Design Plan Needs Assessment: As a new hire in any job you are expected to go through different trainings that will help you learn the different procedures you go through at your job. New hire classes are a must for any adult that is hired at a fast food restaurant setting. My husband is the manager at Church’ Chicken in Palmview, TX. The main concern as a manger is that his employees are not getting trained effectively on how to use a Church’s Chicken register. Unfortunately, his employees are not learning how to use the register correctly and this can cause problem in his business. The register is an important factor in any fast food restaurant because it is the main source that makes sure the customer gets their order correctly. New hires at Church’s Chicken are trained by an employee that is selected by the manager. This process does not always succeed because the employee has to train the new hire during store hours and it can cause a conflict as customers come in, leaving the new hire not fully trained. I believe the ideal way for the new hire to gain the skills they need to effectively use a Church’s Chicken register would be with a step by step online training. Providing the new hires with an online training that includes every step from clocking in to charging an order would ease the training process for the new hire. This training will also prevent the conflict from having to train the new hire during store hours and not finishing the training due to customers that are walking in. Instructional Goal:

Project 3: Instructional Design Plan

Needs Assessment:

As a new hire in any job you are expected to go through different trainings that will help you learn the different procedures you go through at your job.

At the end of this training, the new hire will be able to effectively take an order and demonstrate the skills to clock in and charge a customer as well with at least 90% accuracy.

Performance Objectives:

Using a Church’s Chicken register (CN), the new hire will clock in (B), with no errors (CR).

Using a Church’s Chicken register (CN), the new hire will take an order (B), with at least 90% accuracy (CR).

Using a Church’s Chicken register (CN), the new hire will charge an order (B), with at least 90% accuracy (CR).

Assessment of Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the online training, the new hire will demonstrate skills acquired during the training by effectively clocking in, taking an order, and charging an order.

The first step would be to clock in so that the new hire will be under his name on the register. The second step would be to learn the different steps in taking an order effectively. The last step would be to charge the order and give the customer the receipt. The new hire will then be tested after having completed the online training by having a manager watch over while the new hire takes an order to an actual customer.

Learner Characteristics:

Church’s Chicken New Hires- The online training is perfect for a new hire that has never worked with a fast food register before. The new hire is probably a high school or college that just started off and has their first job. Having an online training will facilitate the learning process for the student because they will have access to a computer and internet connection.

Church’s Chicken Re Hires- The online training can refresh the mind of re hires that have previously worked for Church’s Chicken. The training can enhance the register skills that the re hires have and notify them on any upgrades the register might have had.

Church’s Chicken Employees- Employees that are already working at Church’s Chicken can also benefit from the online training because sometimes not everyone gets trained to use the register (cooks). This training can facilitate the training process for the manger because he/she can have the Church’s employees do the training on their spare time and the manager can then use the cook to take orders when they are short handed.

Learning Context:

The ideal instructional setting for this training is at home during the new hires spare time with a time frame given of when to complete the training. The training can also be viewed during working hours in Church’s Chicken office if the manager allows new hire.

Instructional Strategies:

1. Introduction The new hire will be engaged by letting them know that the register is the main

source of a fast food restaurant. Learning how to use the register effectively will ease the process of working at Church’s Chicken.

The goal of this training will be to facilitate the process for the new hire. This training will provide the new hire with basic register skills.

Page 3: Web viewProject 3: Instructional Design Plan . Needs Assessment: ... New hire classes are a must for any adult that is hired at a fast food restaurant setting

The training will cover how the new hire will clock in on an every day basis, how the new hire will take an order with at least 90% accuracy and how the new hire will charge up an order.

2. Presentation of Information: The purpose of this training is to teach the new hire how to use a Church’s

Chicken register effectively. The register is one of the most important factors at a fast food restaurant because it is the main source that provides us with what the customer wants. The training will cover many steps such as: clocking in, taking an order, and charging an order.

The first step in the training would be to teach the new hire how to clock in on a daily basis with the access code that was provided by a manager.

The second step in the training is how to take an individual order and add sauces, rolls or biscuits to the customer’s order.

The third step in the training is how to charge an order and seeing the different options the customer has to pay such as cash, check, coupons, or credit card.

The last step would be to wait for the customers receipt and check for order number to let the customer know.

New hires will be allowed to practice the skills acquired at the training by practicing everyday clocking in and taking orders on actual customers. The new hire can also practice by taking the other employees order when they are going to order a meal for their lunch time.

At the end of the training the manager will let the new hire know when they will be tested by taking an actual order during working hours.

3. Assessment To insure that skills were acquired by the training, a manger will test the new hire

by closely watching the new hire take a customer’s order. The manger will evaluate the new hire and let them know on any improvements.

Instructional Resources:

The new hire must have internet access at home and a computer to complete the online training. The new hire must also know how to use the internet so that they can use the link provided to them for the online training. The new hire must complete the online training in a certain time frame so that a manager can test out skills acquired by the training.

Formative Evaluation Plan:

Two strategies will be used to test my online training. The first strategy would be test out the training with three Church’s Chicken employees that have more than a year working with the register to see if their register skills enhance after using the online training. The employees can also help me with any revisions that they might see that are needed. The second strategy would be to let a subject matter expert use my online training such a manager or a supervisor.
