World War II Honors Research Project March-April 2012 USII.7 Overview: What kind of project is this? During the World War II unit, students will be researching and writing about different parts/aspects of the war that they choose. First, students will use words and images to create a research portfolio. Second, students will use the portfolio to create an 8-9 paragraph rough and final draft essay on the three most important parts/aspects of World War II. In and outside of history class students will focus on gathering and processing information and images from primary and secondary sources to provide the “research” for the portfolio. Next, students will combine parts of their portfolio together to create a rough draft essay which the teacher will review and edit. Students will then carefully review their rough draft and teacher comments before completing and handing in a final essay draft. Overview: What kind of project is this?

During the World War II unit, students will be researching and writing about different parts/aspects of the war that they choose. First, students will use words and images to create a research portfolio. Second, students will use the portfolio to create an 8-9 paragraph rough and final draft essay on the three most important parts/aspects of World War II.

In and outside of history class students will focus on gathering and processing information and images from primary and secondary sources to provide the “research” for the portfolio.

Next, students will combine parts of their portfolio together to create a rough draft essay which the teacher will review and edit.

Students will then carefully review their rough draft and teacher comments before completing and handing in a final essay draft.

Sources: Where do I get my information?

You must have at least one primary source , a firsthand or eyewitness account or piece of evidence from someone who actually lived through the historical event. Useful primary sources might include interviews from books or magazines, or an interview that you yourself conduct with a family member, family friend, or someone else you know who experienced the war firsthand.
